The Indo-Pakistan
talks ran into trouble late last night with both sides
failing to make any significant move, except to reiterate
their resolve not to allow terrorism to impede the peace
process.

At least 34 persons,
including five women and 10 children, were today killed
and 50 injured, many of them seriously, in a series of
explosions in two cracker factories here, about 50 km from
Patna.

on medical fee structure

The Punjab Government will bring a
Bill in the coming session of the Punjab Assembly to regulate the
functioning, fee structure and admission process in private medical,
dental and other such professional colleges in the state.

well at Dikom on fire
3,000 evacuated,
relief camp set up
Guwahati,
September 15
At least 3000 persons
of three villages have been evacuated, following a fire at
a leaking high pressure gas and crude well of Oil India
Limited at Dikom, near Dibrugarh, late last night.

Firemen attempt to extinguish a blaze at an oil well in Dikom, about 520 km east of Guwahati, on Thursday. Hundreds of firemen battled to control a towering blaze at the damaged oil well sparked by natural gas escaping from the well head.

Army
begins rescue work in Maharashtra
Mumbai, September 15
The Army has been called out in
northern Maharashtra after heavy rains inundated parts of several
districts in the region, according to state government officials.
Sources say Bhandara district is the
worst-hit.

India, Brazil and South Africa have
come together, demanding that sweeping UN reforms should be in place by
the end of this year and emphasised that this will be incomplete without
including developing countries as members of the decision-making
Security Council.

protection to check illegal mining

The Supreme Court has directed the
Haryana Government to provide police protection to a lease-holder of
stone quarries in the Khanak area of Bhiwani district so that
unauthorised mining can be stopped.
