CME on urology, nephrology

The SPS Apollo Hospitals here conducted a continuing medical education (CME) programme in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) at Phagwara yesterday. The CME was attended by over 65 doctors from the area.

Speaking on recent advances in the management of renal calculus, Dr Rajesh Arora, consultant urologist at SPS Apollo, focused on latest therapeutic developments and technologies being made available at the institution here. He said the hospital was committed to provide quality treatment to the local population and the medical fraternity ought to take advantage of the latest facilities for their respective patients.

Delivering a lecture on management of renal failure, Dr Rahul Kohli, nephrologist highlighted, the role of haemodialysis in the patients of renal failure and its proper management.

Raikot zone win kabaddi title

Gujjarwal and Raikot zones emerged champions in kabaddi u-17 and u-19 years categories, respectively, in the Ludhiana Schools Inter-Zonal Tournament for girls which concluded today. Mr Rupinder Singh Ravi, general secretary of the tournament committee, was the chief guest today.

Results: kabaddi (u-17) — Gujjarwal 1, Jagraon 2 and Raikot 3; (u-19) — Raikot 1, Jagraon 2 and Gujjarwal 3; kho-kho (u-14) — Gill 1, Khanna 2 and PAU 3; (u-19) — Jagraon 1, Gill 2 and PAU 3; volleyball (u-19) — Jagraon 1, Raikot 2 and PAU 3; (u-14) — PAU 1, Gill 2 and Gujjarwal 3; and hockey (u-19) — Gujjarwal 1, Sahnewal 2 and Raikot 3.

Cricket trials postponed

Ludhiana, August 25
Trials to select the Ludhiana probables for the Punjab State Inter-District Tournament for the Katoch Shield scheduled to be held here at the Arya College for Boys ground on August 27 have been postponed, according to Mr Vinod Chitkara, honorary general secretary, Ludhiana District Cricket Association. The same will now be conducted on August 28 at 8 am at the same venue.

The selected boys will undergo training during a week-long camp before the final selection of the Ludhiana team for the forthcoming tournament to be organised by the Punjab Cricket Association and slated to commence on September 5.

Badminton meet begins

Shuttlers of DAV Public School and Sacred Heart Convent School began their campaign on a winning note as they recorded victories in the girl’s section of the XIV Ludhiana Sahodya School Badminton Tournament which started at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, here today. Ms Paramjit Kaur, Principal of the host school, inaugurated the tournament in which competitions in u-14 and u-19 years category will be held.

Results: Girls (u-14) — Satluj Public School beat TPS School 3-0 (Ramneet beat Gurleen 11-1 and 11-1; Harsimran Kaur and Parampreet Kaur beat Gurleen and Simran Kaur 11-5 and 11-5); GPS School, Mandi Gobindgarh, beat GMT School, Ludhiana, 2-0 (Rikanjot Kaur beat Parampreet Kaur 8-0 and 11-1; Rikanjot Kaur and Shreya beat Parul and Pallavi 11-6 and 11-5); and Sacred Heart Convent School, BRS Nagar, beat DAV Public School 2-0 (Steffi beat Shreya 8-0 and 8-0; Steffi and Ria beat Shivani and Shreya 11-9 and 8-0).
