Pregnant woman killed, 22 injured in accident
Mohali, August 19
A 25-year-old pregnant woman was killed and 22 persons, including eight women and six children, were injured when the private bus they were travelling in rammed into a tree after one of its tyres burst. The bus driver fled moments after the accident near Sohara village on the Ropar- Kharar highway this afternoon.

The Chandigarh Police continues to grope in drains and dark alleys. Even after a lapse of over 72 hours, the police has failed to solve the mystery shrouding constable Jaswinder Kaur’s death.

Bus passengers continued to suffer for the third day today as the ongoing row between employees of Punjab Roadways and the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking could not be resolved by the authorities concerned.

Thousands of commuters were put to hardship today for more than six hours on the National Highways No 22 and 21 and on various link roads in Zirakpur by employees of the Punjab Roadways and Chandigarh Transport Undertaking. It was around 12.30 pm when a Punjab Roadways bus blocked the Chandigarh-Ambala road it led to blockade of traffic for nearly four hours.

Bathroom fittings and household items were stolen from a house in Sector 68 here. According to information available, the owner of the house lives abroad and it is being looked after by his relatives. No one is staying in the house. The thieves damaged the doors to gain entry into the house.

PU supplementary exam rules may be changed
Chandigarh, August 19
Students of Panjab University have to face problems taking supplementary exam in subjects where question papers are set in accordance with the revised syllabi for the new teaching year and not according to the syllabi of the year in which they were taught.

Result of Class X supplementary examinations, held from July 30 to August 5 will be declared on August 20. The total candidates who took the examination are 11,764 and out of which, 6,327 have been declared as pass.

Filming a unique literary commune
Chandigarh, August 19
It was by chance that Indu Bala Singh, a lecturer in English at the Government College for Girls, Sector 11, read the memoirs of Urmila Anand, titled “Remembering Preetnagar”. The book inspired Indu to take up filming and documenting this unique literary commune set up in the ’30s at a village equidistant from Lahore and Amritsar. The outcome is the documentation by camera of the project and Indu is indeed proud of achieving what others had just dreamt of.
