One killed, 3 hurt as boiler bursts

SBI waives limit on tourism loans

To improve tourism infrastructure, the State Bank of India has removed the upper ceiling on loans for tourism projects.

Teachers’ group to boycott PAUTA poll

Elections to the Punjab Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (PAUTA) may run into rough weather with a group of teachers deciding to boycott the election. A meeting of some of these teachers was held here today. They observed that under the present circumstances the elections would not serve any purpose.

The Punjab Rights Forum, a conglomerate of various political, social and human rights bodies, has resolved to organise a protest march on August 20 here, against the role allegedly played by late Rajiv Gandhi and other Congressmen in the 1984 anti-Sikh carnage in Delhi and elsewhere on the eve of the birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister.

Badal never visited terror victims: Dullo
Ludhiana, August 19
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Mr Shamsher Singh Dullo, yesterday said that there was a lot of difference between the Akalis and the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. He said Capt Amarinder may have remained with the Akalis for sometime, but it does not mean that he was also responsible for terrorism in the state.

Brahman sabha office-bearers

The leaders had apprehended the use of coercion by the ruling party for taking possession of Nanaksar Ashram Thath.

DMCH to start epilepsy surgery soon
Ludhiana, August 19
Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) would soon introduce on its campus the facility of ‘epilepsy surgery’ for the treatment of uncontrollable epileptic seizures.

450 patients examined
Ludhiana, August 19
SPS Apollo organised a free health check-up camp at Machhiwara yesterday. More than 450 patients were examined in the camp which covered specialties like cardiology, ophthalmology and internal medicine. The patients were also provided with facilities of blood pressure monitoring and ECG and given free medicines.
