Lake Club GM files reply with CAT
Chandigarh, August 18 In his reply, he stated that the applicant Rajiv Sharma, an advocate, at no point of time was eligible for the post of GM, neither in 2000 nor in 2004, when the post was advertised by the Chandigarh Sports Council. Thus, the applicant who never applied for the post had no locus standi to file the present original application. Regarding the water sports background, Mr Singh replied he had managed various aquatic events at the university level. An application challenging the appointment was moved by Mr Rajiv Sharma on the ground that “irregularities” were committed. It may be recalled that the appointment of Singh was quashed by CAT on August 17 last year, terming it as “arbitrary, capricious and unjust”. The tribunal had then directed the Administration to fill the vacancy in accordance with law within three months of advertising the post. However, the applicant alleged that with a view to accommodate Dr Singh, the Administration had changed the rules without calling a general body meeting of the Chandigarh Sport Council (CSC). It was also alleged that the applications for the posts were called within a period of five days and several eligible candidates could not apply in such a short span of time. Moreover, the experience in water sports was waived to favour Dr Singh, Mr Sharma alleged. Quoting another advertisement, the applicant alleged that for other posts, a time of 15 days was given for submission of application. He also alleged that while a boatman was denied extension by the CSC on the plea that he had crossed the age limit of 60, Dr Singh, was already over 60 when appointed. |
