Rape of minor: 4 more held
Mohali, August 6
A special investigation team of the Punjab Police today arrested four persons in connection with a rape and abduction case registered in 2003. The four have been arrested for allegedly harbouring those absconding in the case and helping them with ill-gotten money.

After a thorough probe into the alleged embezzlement of public money by a postal assistant posted at Jagraon, the Punjab circle of the Postal Department has put the total amount involved in the case at around Rs 22 lakh.

Baratis return, but without bride

Baratis returned, but without the bride, after the bridegroom started claiming that the girl he was to marry was not the one shown to him earlier. The marriage was called off and the bridegroom’s father agreed to pay the expenses borne by the bride’s family in holding the marriage function.

Hundreds of residents of Sector 21 here are being forced to brave unscheduled power cuts, several times during the day, even as the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and the Haryana Urban Development Authority continue to blame each other for the problem.

Earmark ‘malba’ dumping sites, say residents

An open darbar programme, organised by the Municipal Council in Sector 4 here today, received many complaints regarding the state of civic amenities in the town. From Congress grass menace to poor sanitation, and from dumping of debris to lack of toilets in gardens, a large number of complaints were put fourth by residents.

Chandigarh-Morinda rail line in sight

The Chandigarh-Morinda section of the Chandigarh-Ludhiana rail link is expected to become functional over the next three months. Work on the rail track in this section is likely to be completed by the end of October.

The police has booked Sudhir, a tenant at house no 605, Sector 16, for abducting a labourer girl from the locality. The man has been booked on a complaint by girl’s father Chhote Lal, a resident of Buddanpur village.

No headway in Food Inspector’s murder

Although more than 24 hours have lapsed since the body of an Inspector with Punjab’s Food and Civil Supplies Department, Maskeen Singh, was found in Sector 35, the police has failed to trace the culprits.

Buffaloes’ death: contractor, truck driver held

In less than a day after 21 dead buffaloes were pulled out of a truck near a roundabout in Sector 39, the police today arrested a Saharanpur-based contractor and the vehicle’s driver.

Renowned numerologist Sanjay B Jumaani will share his prediction on Aamir Khan’s much-awaited movie “Mangal Pandey - The Rising” in his first numerology show on television. The show Bolein Ssitare – Number Sey Amber Tak will be aired on Sahara One TV channelat 6:30 pm on Sunday. Jumaani says, “If we take a look at the date on which the movie will be released i.e. August 12 adding up to no. 3. The movie title adds to no. 5.

Over 150 teachers and volunteers from the northern region assembled on the Panjab University campus today for inauguration of SPIC MACAY’s north zone convention. More formal than before, the convention began with the address of PU VC, Dr K.N. Pathak and wrapped up on a melodious note with Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma and Kumar Gandharva’s illustrious son Mukul Shivputra adding spiritual flavour to the event.

The Chandigarh Administration is likely to issue a notification shortly regarding an increase in height of shop-cum-flats and shop-cum-offices. This was stated by Mr S. Regupathy, Minister for State in Ministry of Home Affairs, in a written answer to a question raised in Lok Sabha by Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, Member of Parliament.
