Illegal structures razed near Daria village

Rains flood hospitals with gastro cases
Chandigarh, August 2
City hospitals are flooded with cases of gastroenteritis. Doctors say the number of cases is at least 10 times more than those reported last year during the rains. A cross section of doctors said there was a “massive” increase in the gastroenteritis cases. A visit to children’s clinics, in particular, revealed long queues.

Blame it on superstition or erratic functioning, the electric crematorium in Sector 25 seems to have failed to gain acceptance among residents of the city. The adjoining traditional crematorium is used by people instead of the electric crematorium.

Plea for drive against female infanticide
Chandigarh, August 2
A meeting of the Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) was held here today. Addressing the meeting, Mr P. Ranganathan, General Manager of Nabard, said the bank had disbursed an amount of Rs 1639 crore during 2004-05 and Rs 370 crore up to July this year.

Mobile phone snatched from youth
Chandigarh, August 2
Two motor cycle-borne miscreants allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a youth late last night in the city. The police arrested one person on the allegations of stealing a bicycle and another one for indulging in gambling.

One dead in car mishap
Dera Bassi, August 2
Mr Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony, Chandigarh, died on the spot and his companions, Mr Sandeep Kumar and Mr Sahib Singh of Chandigarh, were seriously injured when the Maruti car (CH-03-3879) in which they were travelling collided head-on with a canter (HP-62-1299) on the Zirakpur-Dapper stretch late last night.

Air Deccan plans another Delhi-UT flight
