Punjab orthopaedic body chief

Chandigarh, July 25
An eminent orthopaedic surgeon and Head of the Department of Orthopaedics, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32,Prof Raj Bahadur, was elected as President of the Punjab Chapter of the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA) at the 11th annual conference held in Jalandhar yesterday. Prof Raj Bahadur also delivered a lecture on joint replacement for younger patients having pain in hip.

Prof Raj Bahadur is credited with the introduction of surface replacement arthroplasty and natural knee through Prof Luca and Prof Neugeabur from Italy and Germany.

The President-elect of the North Zone of the IOA for the current year, Prof Raj Bahadur has also been invited to deliver a lecture on the “management of cervical spine injuries”at the golden jubilee conference of the IOA to be held in Mumbai shortly.

Soccer on table in DAV School

Mohali, July 25
DAV Public School, Mohali, today introduced table soccer and table tennis for its students.
Inaugurating the sports facilities Mr Ravinder Talwar, manager of the school, said the school had decided to involve top coaches for imparting training in various games. “We will introduce all indoor games within the next couple of months, including chess, yoga and carrom,” announced Mr Talwar.

He said the school planned to start a skating rink but had to delay the laying of the rink due to the monsoon. “We would try to complete the rink by the end of this year,” said Talwar while declaring that the sports facilities would be open on all evenings.

Principal Jaya Bhardwaj said as soon as the school building gets completed more games would be introduced.

Meanwhile, school coach Balwinder Singh said the trials for participation in the forthcoming tournaments in table soccer and table tennis would be conducted soon.

Table tennis tourney on August 6, 7

The Panchkula District Table Tennis Championships will be organised by the Panchkula District Table Tennis Association on August 6 and 7 at Manav Mangal School, Sector 11, Panchkula. This was stated by Dr V.P. Paul, president of the association. The events will be organised in kid boys and girls (under-10), cadet boys and girls (under-12), sub-junior boys and girls (under-17) and men’s and women’s singles. Entries will close at Manav Mangal School on August 4.

Dodge ball c’ship: The Dodge Ball Association of Chandigarh will hold the trials on July 26 at Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22. Those selected will take part in the forthcoming senior national dodge ball championship to be held in Chandigarh from August 5 to 7. This was stated by Mr G.P. Pal, general secretary of the association. Those interested may report to the physical education teacher of the school at 6 pm tomorrow.

Minerva academy in final

The Minerva Academy Cricket Club outplayed the JJ Sports to storm into the final of the 13th Bathany Cricket Tournament held at Satluj Public School, Sector 4, here yesterday.

The JJ Sports won the toss and elected to bat first. It made 191 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Kulwinder and Manav Asopa played well and made 53 and 40 runs, respectively.

Skipper Ranjit Bajaj and Ravi Dhaliwal picked up three scalps for his team giving away just 25 and 35 runs in their allotted 5 overs spell.

The JJ Sports: 191 for eight in 20 overs (Kulwinder Romi 53, Manav Asopa 40, Tejwinder Gill 30, Manpreet Singh 22, Harish Garg14, Ranjit Bajaj 3 for 25, Ravi Dhaliwal 3 for 35).

The Minerva Academy club: 194 For four in 18.5 Overs (Amardeep Sonkar 116 in 56 deliveries, Hari Krishan Kali 50, Rocky Ratta 40, Parveen 2 for 35).

Taekwondo players honoured

The Panchkula District Taekwondo Association yesterday organised a Martial Art function in the St Soldier’s Divine Public School, Sector16, here. The chairman, Panchkula Nagar Sudhar Sabha, Mr Shyam Lal Jindal, gave away prizes to the local players who had taken part in the 25th Junior National Taekwondo championship held at Imphal.

Mr Vishnu Mohan, president and Mr Satish Kuhaar, secretary of the association, complimented the players.

Monika Chauhan, Chitra Bakshi and Sandeep Singh, all from Satluj Public School, were honoured with cash prizes. Aksh Gupta, Raship Prikha, Sahil, Shailesh, Vishal, Prashant, Sidhant and Anam Bansal were also given prizes.

Swati Sharma is SDM (East)

Ms Swati Sharma, a probationer of the 2003 batch of IAS, has been posted as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), East, with immediate effect, an official press note said here today.

Ms Swati will also be the Registering and Licensing Authority, Joint Director, Agriculture-cum-agri Census, and Rural Development and Panchayats, Secretary, Red Cross and nodal officer for continuing education.

She relieves Mr Vinay Singh, Director, Public Relations, who will continue to look after the work of Joint Director, Food and Supplies.

Eviction notice to 166 residents

Panchkula, July 25
The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has served notices on 166 residents of Kharag Mangoli village and Old Panchkula for vacating the premises that have allegedly come up on HUDA land. A local court had earlier granted stay on the eviction of encroachers on HUDA land at Kharag Mangoli village. As many as 166 residents had moved the court, which in turn had restricted HUDA from evicting them, except as per the course of law.

The residents had pleaded that they were staying in the village for the past two decades. They said they had been issued voter identity cards and ration cards but now HUDA proposed to evict them but had issued no notice.

Officials in HUDA say that they have given three-day notice, in accordance with the directions of the court, and these house will be demolished after the end of the notice period.

The HUDA has identified over 1,000 illegal structures on its land in Kharag Mangoli and Old Panchkula and proposes to raze these. A team of HUDA officials had conducted a survey of the area and found that other than 800 structures, including 20 shops, that had a stay on eviction, hundreds of tenements and commercial establishments had come up.

PUDA gets tough, violators stand to lose sites

Mohali, July 25
Allottees of PUDA institutional sites who have violated the terms and conditions of allotment stand to lose their site. The authority today ordered intensive monitoring of institutional site allotments done over the years and in case violations of terms of allotment are discovered, resumption of these sites has also been ordered.

According to sources, the Additional Chief Administrator (policy), Ms Raji P. Srivastava, in a circular issued to PUDA Estate Officers, has asked them to identify all institutional properties allotted so far by PUDA, including allotments made by the Director Housing and Urban Estates and the Punjab Housing Development Board, and check whether the allottees have completed the construction of buildings, paid complete instalments and complied with other terms of allotment.

In case of any violation, immediate action for the resumption of the site would be initiated.

The order said the exercise should be completed by October 31and compliance reports should be sent. “The Estate Officer will be held personally responsible if he fails to proceed as per law against the defaulters and violators,” the order said.

Sources said the circular was issued when it was noticed that in certain cases, allottees to whom institutional sites, including schools, nursing homes, hospitals, religious and professional colleges, technical training institutes and charitable trusts, were allotted in various urban estates of Punjab had put the sites on sale or entered into illegal transactions.

Special IT counters

The Income Tax Department will set up special counters for the taxpayers of the city and Mohali to file their returns from July 27 to 31. According to a press note, the special counter for Range 1 will be set up at SCO 45 to 47, Sector 17. Counters for Ranges 2 and 3 will be set up at SCO 73 to 75, Sector 17 and for Ranges 4,5 and 6 the counter will be set up at Jat Bhavan, Sector 27.

These counters will be remain open from 9.30 am to 5 pm. During this period the returns will be received at the special counters only. Separate counters will be provided for the senior citizens, officials added.
