DEAD: Charanjit Kaur Preeti, 27, a resident of Kotha Hari Singh Nanaksar who suffered injuries in a car accident, succumbed to her injuries. The local police has registered a case under Sections 304- A, 279, 337 and 338, IPC. Charanjit Kaur’s mother and her three children had also suffered injuries in the accident.

CDs SEIZED: The Dakha police raided the premises of Puran Chand of Mandi Mullanpura on the complaint of Ranjit Singh of Chodawni Mohalla, Division No 4, Ludhiana, and seized 101 pirated CDs along with an original one. A case under the copy right Act, 1953, and Section 292, IPC, has been registered.

FRAUD CASE: The Gohana police has arrested Promod and Parveen of Patran village in Punjab after they had withdrawn Rs 36,000 from the Gohana branch of the State Bank of Patiala by online banking after preparing a fake passbook in the name of Mr Darshan Singh of Bhiwanigarh in Patiala district. The police has registered a case under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468 and 471, IPC, against them.

RAID: Officials of the Agriculture Department headed by Dr Anil Sehrawat, Deputy Director, Agriculture, conducted a surprise raid on a shop at Gohana town, 35 km from here, on Friday. The action followed a series of complaints that the shopkeeper had been selling the pesticides without any licence.

CLASH: At least five persons were injured in a clash which took place between two groups at Jakhauli village, about 15 km from here, on Friday. Lathis and other deadly weapons were used freely in the clash. The injured persons were identified as Kiranpal, Jai Kishan, Gian Devi, Amar Singh and Manoj.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: An amount of Rs 6.41 crore will be spent in the district here during the current financial year for providing various facilities in middle schools under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan. This was stated by the local MLA, Mr Tilakraj Sharma, while inaugurating four rooms at Government Middle School constructed at a cost of Rs 4 lakh at Badhiyat, near here, on Friday.

NSS CAMP: A 10-day National Service Scheme camp for school students commenced at Government Senior Secondary School here on Friday. It was inaugurated by Nagar Parishad member Kamlender Kashyap. Principal K.D. Gautam urged the students to take full advantage of the camp and learn essential qualities of discipline, hard work, cooperation, obedience and leadership. The NSS in charge, Dr Mastram Gautam, said 50 students were participating in this camp.

DEMONSTRATION: Members of the Himachal Pradesh State Education Department Class IV Employees Union led by their state president Amar Singh Chandel demonstrated through the town bazars shouting slogans in favour of their demands on Saturday. They were demanding the withdrawal of the departmental order reducing four-hour duty period to two-and-a-half hours for part-time carriers in schools.
