Farmers updated on farm machinery upkeep

The local branch of Punjab and Sind Bank organised a one-day awareness camp in coordination with the Rural Development Centre at Dhindsa village, 5 km from here, today regarding the maintenance of farm machinery and development of dairy business as a supplementary source of income.

On this occassion, farm machinery expert from Punjab Agricultural University, addressed the farmers and made them aware about the new techniques of maintenance of tractors. They also told the farmers how to run the tractors at minimum cost for 1000 hours in a year to make the tractor purchase a viable preposition.

Dr Rakesh Sharma, dairy expert from Punjab Agricultural University, urged the farmers to adopt modern techniques to improve the output and quality of milk to compete in the international market. He also highlighted the importance of balanced feed self-marketing for higher income from dairy farming.

Mr Upkar Singh, Director of RDC and Mr P.S. Arora dwelt upon the new bank schemes for farmers like Kisan Credit Cards, Modern Dairy Development and crop diversification.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Jaspal Singh, branch manager and Mr I.S. Chehal, RDM, said almost all farmers of Dhindsa village, had been covered under the Kisan Credit and other innovative schemes of the bank and there is zero per cent default in the village.

Mr J.S. Toor, District Coordinator, was also present on the occassion.

Protest over student’s death

Ludhiana, July 16
Students of Arya College, Government College for Boys, Khalsa College and the Student Union of Shiv Sena Hindustan protested against the failure of the government to take action against the Principal and management of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir over the death of a student.

Students maintained that Dikdhit Dhanda had lost his life on a trip to Manali due to the negligence of the school authorities.

At a meeting held here today, Suraj Ahluwalia, president, Shiv Sena, said they regretted the death of Dikshit Dhanda, student of BVM, who lost his life allegedly due to the negligence of staff members who had taken a group of students for excursion to Manali.

He said in a press release that they were hurt as no action had been taken against the staff or Principal or school authorities.

Doraha college shows good results

Doraha, July 16
Students of B.A. (I) of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, have shown commendable results in the examinations conducted by Panjab University in April 2005. The total result is 85. There are 76 first divisions.

Amritpal Kaur, daughter of Mr Gurmail Singh, has stood first in the college, securing 595 marks out of 800. Jaspreet Kaur daughter of Gurdas Singh, has secured the second position with 587 marks. Sarabjit Kaur ranks third with 563 marks.

Excellent results

The postgraduate Department of Economics, Kamla Lohtia S.D. Collge, Daresi Road, achieved splendid results in the M.A. (I) Economics examination conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh. Seven students secured first division. The first position was bagged by Pooja with 270 marks out of 400. The second position was bagged by Vanita with 260 marks. Ekta stood third with 250 marks.

DIMT students excel

Punjab Techincal University, Jalandhar, has declared the MCA-VI semester result. Students of Doraha Institute of Management & Technology (DIMT), have done well. All students have scored above 80 per cent marks.

According to a press note issued by Dr. R.S. Gupta, Director, Amritpal Kaur has stood first with 90 per cent marks, Sukhvir Singh and Aman Singh are second 89.5 per cent marks each. Ajay Kumar Sharma is third with 89.2 per cent marks.

Seminar on nanny programme

A large number of girls attended a seminar on “Nanny Programme” organised by a local institute on its premises.

The seminar was conducted by Ms Parminder Kaur Hundal, immigration lawyer from Alberta, Canada.

Ms Hundal enlightened the girls on various facets of nanny and personal support workers. She said, “Previously most of the nannies were from Philippines. However, for the last three years there has been tremendous increase in awareness and interest in this programme among Indians.” She said under the ‘care givers category’ Canada requires 90,000 persons annually.
