Seats allotted ‘without proper planning’
Chandigarh, July 14 The department has put forth a condition that at the time of admission to the sports wing of the schools, players should have a minimum standing of state level, inter school or state open championship. Not much weightage has been given to a number of schools which have adequate infrastructure to meet the needs of players of particular sport and are the recipient a of number of trophies in the UT inter school tournaments. Despite having glorious record in cricket, volleyball, basketball, Tennis, handball and kabaddi, DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 has been granted only 22 seats (12 in hockey and 10 in rowing). Similarly, Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, has excelled in swimming, shooting, gymnastics and had also been winners of under-14 hockey team championship. This school has been given 12 seats in volleyball. New Public School, Sector 18 and SD Public School, Sector 32, have the best of the infrastructure for basketball and have domination in the sport but they have been totally ignored. The budding talented sportspersons of the school have thus been deprived of the benefits the sports department gives every year to facilitate the upcoming sportspersons. Instead, the department has extended the major part of its scheme to the government schools whose achievements in sports field have almost been insignificant. Seventeen government schools have been allotted 213 seats under various disciplines giving little consideration to the fact that they do not possen adequate infrastructive. Twelve seats of gymnastics have been allotted to Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, the trials for which could not be held at the school because of lack of infrastructure. Later these were carried out at DAV College, Sector 10. A senior coach who wished to remain anonymous said no concrete planning was done before the allotment of the sports wings seats . Another coach suggested that the department should conduct a meeting with the principals or sports teachers of the schools concerned who could
apprising the Department of the infrastructure they possess in their grounds so that they would be put to best use. |
SAI toughens stance on
coaches’ transfer
Chandigarh, July 14 As many as 746 coaches were transferred all over India last week. In Chandigarh alone, 25 coaches were transferred while 10 coaches were asked to join. Ever since the large-scale transfers were notified, it sent shock waves in the coaches community. As a majority of them enjoyed either political patronage or other strong links — trainees of a few coaches are the wards of either ministers, leaders or bureaucrats — influencing the corporate office at SAI was not a problem. The various regional associations of the SAI coaches also held meetings at various places in the country during the past few days and took joint decision not to adhere to the order of SAI authorities by not joining at the new centres. Faced with this problem and not succumbing to any external pressure, SAI authorities never wanted to take any chance and have sent a strongly worded letter. The order dated July 11, 2005, and signed by Ms Urmila Sharma, Assistant Director (Coaching), Northern Regional Centre, Sonepat, states, “In compliance to office orders 82,88 and 89 dated July 2 and July 6, the coaches who have already been served their transfer order and have already been relieved with immediate effect are further advised to report at their new place of posting. It is also informed that any coach who disobeys the orders of the competent authority, disciplinary action will be initiated (against him) as per the rules”. this office receives their joining report from their new place of posting. Even in the copy sent to the agencies concerned, it states, as the order itself says, that they are transferred and relieved with immediate effect. Please ensure that after July 6, they are no more on the staff of your agency’. By sending this letter, SAI authorities have once again warned the coaches who have been transferred to join at their new place of posting. One of the agencies concerned, Director Sports, Panjab University, Mr D.S. Toor, had decided not to relieve its eight transferred coaches. These agencies would now be in a fix after receiving the above order. Meanwhile, the coaching centres of some are the worst-hit as coaches are unable to decide if they would be allowed to stay or not. A few of them have gone on medical leave to avoid complications. The coaches who have been waiting for long for a Chandigarh posting from remote places are, however, happy to join here. |
Trials for sports wing seats held
Chandigarh, July 14 On the concluding day, over 125 sportspersons turned up for trials for 70 seats in eight disciplines. Handball (10 seats) attracted the maximum participants (45) at Government Model High School, Sector 44, whereas the minimum number of participants (14) was seen in Gymnastic (8 seats) at Moti Ram Senior Secondary School, Sector 27. The other disciplines, for which the trials held today, were: Athletics (8 seats) at Government Model Senior Secondary School-21; Basketball (10 seats) at Moti Ram Senior Secondary School-27; Football (12 seats) at Sanjay Public School-44; Hockey (12 seats) at Government Model High School-44; Lawn Tennis (6 seats) at Guru Nanak Public School-36; Volleyball (12seats) at Shivalik Public School-41. Uncertainty among staff due to CE’s directive
Chandigarh, July 14 Following the letter issued by the Chief Engineer on July 13, at least 13 employees were relieved today. Another 20 employees have yet to be relieved by the engineering wing. It may be mentioned that around 500 employees have already got stay order against the transfer and such employees have not been transferred. The employees of the corporation, who have become senior as per the seniority list up to 2005, have been relieved from the Corporation and have joined their respective departments in the administration. The affected employee allege that if the seniority list was made jup to May 23, 1996, the Chief Engineer of Chandigarh Administration, Mr V.K. Bhardwaj, would have to go the Municipal Corporation and Mr K.B. Sharma would go back to the administration. A case in this regarding is coming up for hearing the CAT on July 26. The seniority list has been prepared till 2005 keeping in mind senior officials in the administration who did not want to go to the corporation. Demanding a probe in to the role of the people whogot the seniority list prepared, the employees said due to the wrong policy of the administration around 1225 employees had been affected. If the seniority list was made up to 1996, a few employees would have been affected. Sources in the administration said the employees who had come from corporation had not been given any work and were marking their attendance in separate registers. As a result, the employees in the administration had become surplus. The affected employees who have been declared surplus in the seniority list and had been asked to give their options lament that the employees who managed to get stay in the next few days would only be left out in shifting exercise. Leaders of the employees union lament that the main dispute concerned only 88 employees of the administration who had gone to the corporation at the time of formation of the civic body in 1996. They said the administration had prepared a seniority list up to 2005 after a gap of nine years and issued a notification to send the employees in the corporation after giving a one month notice. But despite the stay by the High Court, the administration accepted the joining report of some of the employees of the corporation. |
Samples of recarpeted roads taken
Panchkula, July 14 Samples were collected from two roads recently recarpeted by the MC contractor in Sector 15, and from the patchwork of roads carried out in Sector 17 and 19. The samples of pavements made in Sector 15 were also collected by this committee. These samples will now be sent for examination at the government laboratory, to assess the quality of work. These samples will be checked not just for the quality of material used, but also for the thickness of the road accident. It may be noted that the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Brijendra Singh, had formed three committees of officials to keep a check on the various works carried out by the Municipal Council, including sanitation, street light maintenance and construction of roads. It was thus that a committee headed by the SDM today collected samples, after complaints about the quality of work were received. |
