Rural colleges to honour Bhattal, Johal

Machhiwara, June 18
The association of rural unaided colleges of the state has hailed the state government for granting Rs 3.35 crore to 21 colleges falling in this category.
Secretary of the association and Principal, Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College for Women, Jhar Sahib, Parmjit Kaur Tiwana lauded the state government for sanctioning the much needed grant.

Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, Ms Tiwana revealed that their association would honour Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhathal, and Mr S.S. Johal for their positive approach towards the upliftment of unaided rural colleges. The decision was taken in the meeting of the association which was held at Mai Bhago College for Women, Ramgarh. The function would be organised on the premises of Shanti Tara College, Akbarpura, Ahmedgarh.

In the meeting , a committee, comprising of Dr Amarjit Singh, Dr Parmjit Kaur Tiwana, Dr S.S. Sandhu, Mr Arvind Malhotra and Dr Gurjant Singh, was formed.

ABVP alleges scam of Rs 9 lakh by PU

Ludhiana, June 18
Rajat Sood , district secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in a press note there was a scam of Rs 9 lakh in admission forms of the B.Ed Entrance Test issued by Punjab University. He said the University had asked the candidates to pay Rs 22 for postal envelopes to mail their roll numbers to them.

But five days before the test, the students were issued a notice that they should collect their roll numbers from district centres. Rajat Sood said 40, 000 students from Punjab are appearing for the examination. He has asked University to return Rs 22 to the students . The ABVP has urged the Education Minister to give orders for investigation into the matter.

Harsh Sharma of the ABVP said 5,000 students were asked to collect roll numbers from Government College for Boys, but the college was not properly equipped to handle so many students. So there was a lot of confusion.

Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan seminar

Ludhiana, June 18
Following the Central Government plan under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan to provide all children, between the age group of 16-14 years, with quality education, a host of seminars are being held at different districts of Punjab under the guidance of Mr Sadhu Singh Randhawa, Director, SCERT.

In Ludhiana, one of the seminars was organised at Govt Girls High School, Madho Puri, under the leadership of Mr Prem Krishan Bassi as a group leader and Mr Pardeep Kapoor as a coordinator under the supervision of Mrs Usha Sidhu, Principal, Inservice training centre, who is the over-all incharge of seminars in Ludhiana district.

Mr Naresh Kumar, Mr Balbir Singh, Mrs Ashima Sood and Mrs Meenakshi Sachdeva gave lectures on various modules.

Teachers from various schools participated enthusiastically in the discussions that followed.

18-day summer camp ends at Shemrock school

Ludhiana, June 18
A 18-day summer camp organised by Shemrock Kindergarten concluded here today. Fifty students participated in the camp. Students were imported training in various activities like art craft, dance, drawing, calligraphy, personality development, mehndi and computers.

On the concluding day there was an exhibition of articles prepared by them in art and craft and drawing.

Divyanshi stood first, Aamol second and Sanyam Mehta third in drawing competition. Damini stood first, Shradha second and Ekumjot third in art and craft competition. Hasneet stood first, Sunmeet second and Simarpreet stood third in dance. Dilpreet stood first, Muskaan second and Manikdeep third in calligraphy. Anmol Arora got consolation prize.

It was Father’s Day at Love Dale

Father’s Day was celebrated at Love Dale with great enthusiasm and gaiety. The children put up a cultural show for their fathers who were cordially invited and were also felicitated with flowers and hand-made cards by their children.

It has been a week full of excitement for the Love Dale students as on June 16 they had organised a “chhabeel” to commemorate Guru Arjun Dev martyrdom day. On June 17 the children were given an opportunity to share their views about their fathers through speeches, songs and poems. Today the fathers were also given an opportunity to show their love for their children. The function concluded with the principal speaking about the origin of Father’s Day.

PAU ‘A’ win Friendship Cup Cricket Tournament

Ludhiana, June 18
Riding over Atul Kohli’s fine all-round performance of 62 runs off 51 balls and 3 wickets for 36 runs, Government Model Senior Secondary School, PAU ‘A’ beat SDP Senior Secondary School by three wickets to win the trophy in the fourth Friendship Cup Cricket Tournament for School Boys (U-19), organised by Sunrise Cricket Club, which concluded at Punjab Agricultural University here today.

SDP school won the toss and opted to bat first. In 25 overs, they scored 156 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. The main scorers were Sunil Jangra (50) and Deepak (190). Kamaljit contributed 15 runs. For PAU ‘A”, Atul Kohli grabbed three wickets for 36 runs while Tarun and Vaneet Sehgal took two wickets each for 28 and 12 runs, respectively.

PAU ‘A’ achieved the target in 22.3 overs losing seven wickets. Atul Kohli hit 62 off 51 balls while Sikand and Vaneet made 25 and 19 runs, respectively. Pardeep of SDP school took two wickets for 27.

Atul Kohli bagged the player of the tournament and the best batsman prize while Pardeep of SDP school was named the best bowler. Mr Baldev Singh Jaiswal, AGM, State Bank of India, PAU branch, gave away prizes.

Gymnastics camp: More than 70 upcoming gymnasts drawn from different schools and colleges of the state attended the 10-day summer camp organised by the Ludhiana District Gymnastics Association (LDGA) that concluded at AS Senior Secondary School, Khanna, here on Thursday.

According to Mr Rattan Kumar Passi, general secretary of the association, Mr Bhupinder Singh, senior gymnastics coach of the Punjab Sports Department, imparted training to the campers.

A large number of people, including parents of the trainees, and prominent persons of the town, were present at the concluding function which was attended among others by Mr Gurpreet Singh, SP and vice-president of the LDGA, and Mr Apoorav, Principal of AS Senior Secondary School.
