Vajpayee arrives, has a dig at Manmohan
Kulu/Prini May 27 Mr Vajpayee, who arrived here today for his summer sojourn at Prini near Manali, said the NDA government had undertaken the task of strengthening the road network in the country, but this, along with some other good programmes, had been left mid-way by the present government, hitting the development of the country. Lambasting Dr Manmohan Singh for his statement that the worst kind of horse trading was expected in the formation of a government in Bihar, Mr Vajpayee, who looked tired after arriving from New Delhi, said the Prime Minister should have given a chance for a popular government in the state. “If horse trading was taking place, then it should have been checked by the Centre,” he said, blaming the UPA government for creating a “political mess” in Goa, Jharkhand and Bihar. Mr Vajpayee said as a responsible Opposition, the NDA would support the good policies of the government. He expressed concern over the increasing unemployment in the country. Asked to comment on the three-member committee formed to probe the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat, Mr Vajpayee defended Mr Narendra Modi, saying that the UPA government was out to overthrow and discredit a duly elected state government. “They cannot overthrow Mr Modi like this,” he asserted. On the way to his Prini retreat, a large number of people had lined up to welcome Mr Vajpayee at Dhalpur, Gramshila, Sarsai, Jagatsukh and Prini village. The Mahila Mandal and Prini residents welcomed Mr Vajpayee in a traditional way amid “dhol” beats and “shehnai”. Earlier, Mr Vajpayee was received at the Bhuntar airport by a former Chief Minister, Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, the state BJP president, Mr Suresh Bhardwaj, a former MP from Mandi, Mr Maheshawar Singh, the BJP MP from Hamirpur, Mr Suresh Chandel, besides other BJP leaders.
