Booked
: The local police has booked 10 persons for constructing a building on the government property of the Wakf Board. Sources said Mohammad Idris of the Wakf Board had lodged a complaint with the police that the accused were raising a building on the board’s land near the Haji Ratan Chowk. He also alleged that the accused had got a fake registry certificate and when he tried to stop them they threatened officials concerned. A case has been registered against Surinder Kumar, Bachitar Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Tarsem Lal, and six others under Sections 420, 467, 447, 506, and 120B of the IPC.

CONFERENCES: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) would hold conferences in the memory of “martyrs” of the 1984 attack on Sri Harmander Sahib, SAD (A) youth wing chief Barinder Singh Mann stated this here on Friday. According to a release issued here, the first conference would be held at Damdama Sahib on June 2 followed by Dina Kangar on June 3, Anandpur Sahib on June 4, Mao Sahib (Phillaur) on June 5 and Amritsar on June 6.

OPPOSED: The MC president of Bhucho Mandi, Mr Ram Kumar Garg, has opposed the appointment of Mr Rattan Singh as vice-chairman of Market Committee, Bhucho Mandi. In a letter written to the Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Mr Garg alleged that Mr Rattan Singh was neither holding any licence under Section 10 of the Punjab Agricultural Produce Markets Act, 1961, nor is he a partner of any concern doing arhtiya business, and hence he could not even be nominated as member of the committee.

Ferozepore
ARRESTED: The sleuths of Vigilance Bureau, arrested Makhan Singh, Workshop Manager, Punjab Roadways, Ferozepore on Thursday, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 red-handed. According to Mr Narinder Pal Singh Ruby, DSP Vigilance, Moga, who conducted the raid, the erring official had accepted the bribe from Mr Iqbal Singh, a Mechanic in the workshop, for sanctioning his leave.

ELECTROCUTED: Gurbachan Singh, an employee of the PSEB, was electrocuted when he was removing a fault in the power supply at Nainowal Jattan village on Wednesday evening, according to police sources here on Thursday.

SUSPENDED: The Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur, Mr H.S. Chahal, suspended Gurjant Singh, in charge of police chowki, Himtana, on Thursday. He was found drunk on duty and allegedly beaten up a Block Youth Congress president and Sarpanch of village, Burj.

Phagwara
CHAIN SNATCHED: A scooterist snatched a gold chain of Ms Sunita Malhan at Hargobind Nagar and sped away. Ms Malhan of Professor Colony was going to a private hospital with her relative on Thursday night. When both came near it, a scooterist accosted them and fled after snatching the gold chain.

Sangrur
BLOOD CAMP: The Amway Opportunity Foundation organised a blood donation camp at the local Civil Hospital on Friday. Dr Inderjit Kaur Walia, Civil Surgeon, Sangrur, inaugurated the camp. As many as 27 persons donated blood.

REMANDED: Major Singh, Manager of the Sangrur Central Cooperative Bank, Gehlan village branch, was on Thursday remanded in police custody till May 21 by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ms Neelam Arora. He was arrested by the Bhawanigarh police on Wednesday in connection with a theft case, registered on May 1 under Sections 380 and 406 of the IPC at Bhawanigarh police station.
