Forum quashes power theft charges
Ludhiana, May 13 Pronouncing the order, Mr A.S.Narula, president of the forum, ordered the PSEB to refund the amount deposited by the consumer along with 9 per cent interest from the date of deposit till payment. The orders were pronounced while deciding the complaint filed by Subedar Sant Singh (retd) of Kwality Road, Shimlapuri, Ludhiana. In its complaint, the consumer had stated that a few months ago, officials of the PSEB had removed his power meter in an unpacked condition from his house. They did not send him any notice intimating him about the time of testing the meter in M.E.Lab, which was a clear cut violation of the rules of the PSEB. Hence the demand raised was not sustainable. The consumer had also claimed that he never indulged in such a malpractice. On the other hand, it was pleaded on behalf of the PSEB that when the meter of the consumer was checked in the M.E.Lab, it was found recording only 47 per cent energy in comparison to the actual energy being used by the consumer. Moreover, one seal of the meter was found missing. In this way, it was a clearcut case of theft of energy by controlling the recording of actual consumption of energy. |
