BODY FOUND: The body of a 10-year-old boy was found in an under-construction sewerage water purifier plant tank here on Tuesday. Mr Dilbagh Singh, father of deceased Jaspinder Singh said his son after returning from the school had gone with his friends to play. In the afternoon, he was informed by one of his friends that Jaspinder had been drowned in the tank of the sewerage water purifier plant near Kushth Ashram behind the Amritsar octroi post.

ASPHYXIATED: A farm labourer Bablu (aged 17) was asphyxiated at Rampur Sunra village on Tuesday.

ROUNDED UP: The CIA staff of Kapurthala has rounded up Sukhwinder Singh of Bhullarai village near here for his alleged involvement in a pirated CD racket. About 250 VCDs and 900 audio CDs of Hindi and Punjabi songs were seized from his possession. Inspector Satnam Singh, CIA staff, Kapurthala, said a case had been registered under the Copyright Act.

SNATCHED: Two scooterists snatched Rs 14,000 from Bhaghan Kaur and her daughter-in-law Rani near Tarkhan Majara village in Phillaur subdivision on Tuesday.

SEMINAR: A seminar on health education was organised at the Maha Shiv Shakti School of Nursing, Patti, on Tuesday, which was presided over by Dr Harjit Bharti, SMO, Civil Hospital. Ms Jatinder Sharma, Principal of the school, Dr Dinesh Gupta, a surgeon of the local Civil Hospital, and others talked about ultrasound and the punishment proposed for violating the PNDT Act.

ELECTED: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Fruit and Vegetable Sellers Union, Patti: president — Mr Lachhman Singh; senior-vice-president — Mr Pritam Singh; vice-president — Mr Surjit Singh; secretary — Mr M. Ashok Mehta; and treasurer — Mr Ashwani Mehta.

BOOTHS: The district administration has set up 527 booths for the pulse polio drive starting from May 15. Ninetythree mobile teams and 14 transit teams had also been set up for this purpose, according to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Phateh Singh Dagar.

Panipat
INJURED: Five persons were injured in a clash between two groups in Wadhawa Ram Colony here on Tuesday. The injured have been admitted to Bhim Sen Sachar Hospital. The injured have been identified as Bhupender, Narender, Jaipal, Ram Diya and Angrej Singh.

RECEPTION: The newly appointed District and Sessions Judge, Mr R.C. Bansal, was accorded a warm reception by members of the Rewari District Bar Association here on Tuesday. Earlier, Mr Bansal inaugurated the newly established sessions division in the judicial complex.

Sonepat
THEFT: Thieves are reported to have ransacked a house here on Wednesday. According to a report, gold ornaments, Rs 7,000 and other valuables worth more than Rs 1 lakh were stolen from the house. The owner of the house has lodged a complaint with the police in this connection.

LOOTED: Three unidentified youths reportedly waylaid Mr Sube Singh, a former employee of All-India Radio, and snatched Rs 19,000 from him at Bidhal village, 25 km from here, on Wednesday. The alleged assailants, however, escaped immediately after assaulting and injuring Mr Sube Singh. The police has registered the case against three persons, including Dalbir and Madan of the village.

13 INJURED: At least 13 persons, including four women, were injured, eight of them seriously, when the jeep by which they were travelling was hit by a container on the Sonepat-Rohtak road, near Jharot village, about 10 km from here, on Wednesday. The injured belonged to Khalasi village, near Bahadurgarh.
