26 nurses recruited for New Zealand

Chandigarh, May 11
Leon Vermeulen, Director, Healthcare Employment Services, International Recruitment and Placement Consultants, New Zealand, who is in the city for recruiting nurses, said there was shortage of nursing staff in New Zealand. He selected 26 nurses from the Canadian Institute for International Studies (CIIS), here.

“It is my first visit to India and we selected the candidates after conducting an interview. We assure suitable placement to all these nurses in our country.

They also have the choice to go to other countries. But in New Zealand their families can accompany them as they will be given work permit visa”.

Indo-Pak karate seminar concludes

Panchkula, May 11
A two-day Indo-Pak referees/judges seminar on the rules and regulations for judging and refereeship for karate concluded at Doon Public School, Sector 21, Panchkula today. The seminar was organised by the District Panchkula Karate Association under the auspices of Haryana State Karate Association.

Four Pakistani delegates — Mohammed Basharat Ali (chief coach), Mohammed Zaheer Shah Khan, Mohammed Kasif Ajmeri, National karate champion and Mohammed Asif Malik, from Kyo Kushin Kai Karate Association, Pakistan — participated in the seminar.

Sukhjeevan Sharma and Pawan Kumar conducted the taekwondo training session and Ajit Kumar (NIS) conducted the training session for wu-shu.

At the end of the seminar, Basharat Ali demonstrated karate skills by breaking ice with his hands and passing a Tata Safari over his body.

Mementos and gifts were presented to the Pakistani delegation.

About 30 instructors from various districts of Haryana participated in the seminar and 14 of them qualified as refrees and judges.

GNPS-36, GMSSS-21 girls in handball final

Chandigarh, May 11
Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, will take on Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, in the final of the girls section of the 20th Chandigarh State Sub-Junior Handball Championship being played here at the DAV Senior Secondary School grounds, Sector 8.

GNPS-36 defeated GMSS, Sector 44, 12-0 while GMSSS-21 beat Sacred Heart school, Sector 26 by 8-4.

Earlier in the boys section, GMSSS, Sector 16, defeated DAV School, Sector 8, 7-3, Coaching Centre, Sector 23, beat GMSSS, Sector 47, 16-5 while Coaching Centre, Sector 19 beat CC-42, 21-9.

Carrom meet

The Panchkula District Carrom Association will hold the Ist R.K. Babuta Memorial Prize Money Ranking Carrom Tournament at Saupin’s School, Sector 9, Panchkula, from May 21 to 23. The events will be held in men and women, junior (below 18) and sub-junior (below 14 years) categories.
