Protest against bifurcation of PAU
Ludhiana, May 10 Hundreds of employees gathered near Thapar Hall under the leadership of PAUTA President Dr H S Brar, Secretary Dr I M Chhiba, PAU employees Union President Mr D P Maur, General Secretary Mr Amrit Pal and PAU class four workers union President Mr Pal Singh and Secretary Hardev Ghaloti. The employees condemned the decision of Punjab government to bifurcate PAU and termed it as two steps backward with one step forward on the path of socio-economic development of the state as well as of the country, because in the present era of revolutionary technological development the different sectors of the economy can be developed in a better manner only in integration, co-operation and co-ordination with each other. They said, history in itself was witness that PAU could achieve such heights in green and white revolution because of positive correlation and integration between crop and animal sciences. The leaders further said that PAU was already suffering from financial crisis while the bifurcation of PAU will further deepen the crisis of both universities. They warned the Punjab government against transfer of employees to a new institution without taking their consent. This may adversely affect the service condition of employees as has happened to the employees of Ladhowal Farm who could not yet get the pay scales and other allowances on the pattern of PAU. Therefore the employees supposed to be transferred to the new institution may find themselves to be deprived of a number of service benefit which are applicable only on PAU employees. The leaders of various unions demanded from Punjab government to withdraw its decision of bifurcation of PAU and a new independent veterinary University be set up in the state. They also demanded that PAU should be given funds for research, education and extension activities so that the crisis-ridden peasantry of Punjab may be out of crisis. The leaders demanded that the decision of transferring PAU employees to another institution without taking their consent should also be withdrawn. The issue of bifurcation of PAU was discussed at the meeting of more than 30 state-level organisations on May 4 at Ludhiana and it was decided to fight against bifurcation of PAU at the state level. The rally today was also addressed by PAU students leader Mr Sarwan Singh Boparai and farm-teachnocrates leaders Dr R P S Aulakh. |

‘Task Force’ report devoid of vision: Forum
Ludhiana, May 10 The forum condemned that report blatantly ignored the real problems engulfing higher education in Punjab. As the scenario was today, students were being fleeced and the teachers being exploited by the colleges and universities. The report was totally blank so far as the problems like non payment of salary for months together to college staff, under payment of salary and lack of persionery benefits were concerned. The Save Education Form was of the firm view that Johal Committee Report was the only viable solution to problems of higher education in Punjab. It envisaged low cost quality education, timely payment of salary and other dues to the teachers, transparency in college functioning besides it reduced the financial burden of state government. The Johal Model was equally applicable to all the privately managed colleges including the un- aided ones. The Save Education Forum appealed to the State Government to implement this model speedily without further loss of time. |
