MC contractors’ cartel hampering development
Ludhiana, May 6
Contractors of the local Municipal Corporation have allegedly formed a cartel in the city to protest against the alleged non-payment of dues by the civic body. Work on as many as 50 major development projects in the city is getting delayed as the contractors have refused to submit the tender forms.

Innovative surgery saves life of newborn

It was another feather in the cap for Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) here when ENT doctors successfully saved the life of a one-and-a-half-month old baby by performing an innovative endoscopic surgery through his mouth.

SHO suspended as detainee consumes celphos
Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 6
The DSP of Mullanpur, has suspended the SHO of Latala police chowki under the Dehlon police station. The DSP has also ordered a departmental inquiry against him and his immediate transfer to the Police Lines for the negligence leading to the alleged consumption of celphos by a detainee lodged in the lock-up last night. The detainee had been booked under Sections 107 and 151 of the Cr PC.

No headway in Rs 19 lakh heist

The police continues to grope in the dark in search of four persons accused of looting Rs 19 lakh from a money-lender and injuring three persons in Muradpura colony yesterday.

IDPD criticises govt bid to bridle MCI

Man assaulted over land dispute

Inderjit Singh, Sarbjit Singh, Tarlochan Singh, Pal Singh, Gurdeep Singh and Jagir Singh, all of Agwar Lopo village in Jagraon Tehsil are alleged to have entered the house of Gurmeet Singh of the same area, and assaulted him with weapons.

The Dakha police has seized 7 kg of poppy husk during the search of a Truck (PB-05-9761) in the area of Gahor and arrested Mukhtiar Singh of Khanzarwal and Mohinder Singh of Dakha.

120 kg of poppy husk seized
Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 6
The Malaudh police has seized 120 kg of poppy husk from a person who had been supplying it to the youth of this area for more than four years. A police party nabbed Harnek Singh of Bharewal village from a kacha road near drain bridge near Chomon village.

Public Cause, a forum for voicing common problems of people, today submitted a memorandum to Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Technical Education, for scrapping common entrance test (CET) 2005, which will be held on June 3.

PAU staff get salaries at last
Ludhiana, May 6
The employees of Punjab Agricultural University yesterday got their salaries after the grant was received from the state government. The Registrar, Dr V.K. Sharma, confirmed that the university had already received the monthly grant from the state and the salaries had been disbursed among the entire staff of the university.

Arya College students bag top positions

The district health administration is gearing up for the second phase of the national level pulse polio campaign on May 15. Presiding over a meeting of senior medical officers and heads of different sectors in the district here today, the Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajinder Kaur, asked them to ensure that each and every child in the age group of 0-5 years was administered polio drops.

2 ultrasound machines sealed

The Punjab Health Department has sealed two ultrasound machines here for allegedly violating norms of the department. Dr Inderjit Kaur Walia, Civil Surgeon, Sangrur, said here yesterday that three cases of violation of the Act had been noticed while some diagnostic centres evaded verification on the pretext of closure of their respective centres.
