Technologists seek medical council
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, May 3
The Chandigarh unit of the All-India Medical Laboratory Technologists’ Association today demanded the formation of the Council of Medical Laboratory Technology for uniformity in the diagnostic tests all over the country.

Reacting to a news-item, “Same diagnostic test, different results,” published in Chandigarh Tribune yesterday, the association secretary, Dr Pankaj Kaul, said an all-India body to train the medical technologists was a must to avoid discrepancies in the diagnostic tests.

Most of the institutions offering the diploma course in medical laboratory technology have neither the requisite infrastructure nor the qualified teaching staff.

The establishment of the regulatory authority will make it possible for the government to regulate such institutions besides ensuring the high standard of paramedical education, he claimed.

Now most of the times the qualified technologists are not recruited by private diagnostic centres seriously affecting the accuracy of the diagnostic tests, he added.
