Departure: They were largely below normal in west Uttar Pradesh, markedly below normal in Haryana, Punjab and Uttaranchal, appreciably below normal in Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and east Uttar Pradesh and normal in the rest of the region. The highest maximum temperature in the region was 39.6°C recorded at Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh).
