High drama at Indo-Pak netball encounter
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 27
First the Pakistan team refused to play and later they were coaxed into the match by officials who did not want to take the blame for an Indo-Pak netball tie gone sour.

It was then Indian team’s turn. It blamed the rivals for not playing the game as per the rules.

Acrimonious exchanges, heated debates and threats of physical assault led to walkouts and even a cry from the Indian officials that they would complain to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf as well as the International Federation of Netball Association about the misbehaviour by Pakistani players.

The high drama lasted for more than an hour leading to repeated interruptions in the fifth and concluding match of the Ist Indo-Pak netball series.

The match was played and then almost abandoned at the Sector 17 Football Grounds here today. The series was organised by the Netball Federation of India.

The Pakistan team won the match by four goals as the final score was 47-43. However, India won the five-match series by 3-2. The first four matches were played at Ghaziabad, Jaipur, Sonepat and Delhi.

The Indian netball team is scheduled to visit Pakistan next month for a tournament.
