CASE REGISTERED: PUDA registered a case against Satnam Singh and Kuljit Singh, residents of Mule Chak village, for developing an illegal colony in the village. The police has registered the case on the complaint of the Additional Director of PUDA, Jalandhar.

DUPED: The police has registered a case against Hardev Singh, Gurinder Singh and Amarjit Kaur for duping Amrik Singh on the pretext of appointing him as a patwari. Mr Amrik Singh in his complaint said the accused had promised him the job against a sum of Rs 50,000.

Hoshiarpur
STRIKE: On the call of the joint forum of PSEB, employees of the board went on a two-day strike on Tuesday in protest against the proposed privatisation of the PSEB or converting it into a corporation. Mr Satish Kumar, co-convener, technical services union (VK) of PSEB and Mr Om Parkash, general secretary, ministerial services union of PSEB, claimed that the strike was total.

NEW BUSES: Out of the first lot of 104 new buses recently purchased by the state government for PUNBUS, a wing of Punjab Roadways, the Hoshiarpur depot will get eight buses. According to official sources of the Punjab Roadways, chassis of 108 new buses had been sent to the body builders for preparing their bodies which would be completed within a month. After this the buses would be supplied to the various depots of Punjab Roadways.

PROTEST MARCH: Students of the local ITI and girl students of Industrial Training School, Katcha Toba jointly took out a protest march and staged a rally in front of the mini secretariat here on Tuesday against the recent hike in fees and proposed privatisation of ITIs.

Phagwara
ACCIDENT: Twenty four persons, including women sustained serious injuries after two autorickshaws were hit from behind by a speeding car near Chachrari village on GT road near here on Tuesday. Six of the injured suffered multiple fractures and head injuries.All the injured were hospitalised here.

PSEB STRIKE: On a call given by PSEB employees Forum, a strike, was held here by power employees on Tuesday in protest against the decision to dismantle and corporatise Punjab State Electricity Board. Addressing the strikers, Mr Tarsem Lohia, a TSU leader, declared that strike would also be observed tomorrow. He warned that in case the two-day strike failed to have any impact on the government and the board authorities, the employees would be left with no alternative but to go on indefinite strike.

Two nabbed: The police arrested two persons for gambling. Raj Kumar of Taki Mohalla Mehligate was arrested near Sabzi Mandi on the Hoshiarpur road. Sunil Kumar of Industrial area was arrested from near the JCT mill.

Sonepat
SUICIDE: Vijaywanti, a young housewife, reportedly committed suicide by taking a poisonous substance at her house at Rindhana village under the Baroda police station of this district, about 50 km from here on Tuesday.

BODY RECOVERED: The Sadar police, Gohana, recovered the body of an unidentified youth from a canal minor near Bidhal village about 30 km from here on Tuesday. It has been sent for post-mortem examination. The police is yet to ascertain the identity of the body.

Yamunanagar
FIRE: A fire broke out at Lakshmi Plywood, on the Khajoori road here on Tuesday morning. Five fire tenders brought the fire under control after five hours. The cause of fire is not known.
