Army jawan, Hizbul militant killed in encounter
Jammu, February 15 Official sources said militants fired at an Army patrol at Gursai late at night. In retaliatory fire, the troops shot dead a militant. An Army jawan also died in the exchange of fire. One AK rifle, an under-barrel grenade launcher and a wireless set were seized from the slain militant. Senior Superintendent of Police (Rajouri) M.A. Mujataba said one of the two militants, who were killed by the police and the Army in a joint encounter at Dodasan Pain, near Rajouri, on Friday, was HMPPR’s “Divisional Commander” Umar Mukhtiar of Bhag in occupied Kashmir. The militant was buried after he was killed, he said and added that as wireless intercepts of conversations between militants in Rajouri later suggested that he was Umar. His body was extricated today. Mujataba said some villagers, who had seen the militant, identified the body as that of Umar whose close accomplice Hafiz Rashid was killed by the Delhi police in the Capital two years ago. He said Umar handled all the hawala money in Rajouri district for its further distribution among the militant cadres. A diary seized from him gave a record of the hawala money he had received so far. Umar was active in Rajouri for the past eight years, he added.

Police to close case against Anara
Jammu, February 15 The decision has created yet another controversy in the wake of a report of the Chandigarh-based Central Forensic Laboratory (CFSL) that had recently certified that some of the facial features of the girl in the CD matched the pictures of Anara Gupta. A Hyderabad-based laboratory had given a clean chit to the former Miss Jammu by saying that the girl in the porno-CD was someone else. The porno-CE case had rocked the northern parts of the country when it was initially alleged that the footage was shot at various places in Himachal Pradesh and the boy featuring in the CD belonged to Jalandhar. A number of police officers were suspended for confining Anara Gupta in the police station ignoring normal procedures. A local cable operator, accused of having shot the porno-scenes, had been arrested. |
