City to have Pandey’s memorial

Ludhiana, January 19
The Deputy Chief Minister Punjab, Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, today announced that a memorial will be set up as a mark of respect to late Joginder Pal Panday, who had sacrificed his life while fighting terrorism in the state.

3 booked for lynching suspected thief
Ludhiana, January 19
The city police today booked three persons for allegedly lynching a suspected thief while seriously injuring another suspect at Miller Gunj here last night.

Centre for disabled to come up in city

Deputy Commissioner Anurag Verma has invited applications from the NGOs/ self-help groups (SHGs), who work for the welfare and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, along with the details of their human and financial resources and expertise for the setting up of a district disabilities rehabilitation centre here. The applications should reach his office within 15 days.

Conman takes bank for a ride

The Union Bank of India (UBI), Sector 35, filed a fresh complaint against Bharat Bhushan Aggarwal, a resident of Sector 28-A, against whom the Economic Offence Wing of the Chandigarh police is conducting an inquiry into alleged frauds committed by him with this bank. The earlier complaint was made in October last year.

Ugly scenes took place at Nauria Mal Jain public school at the Bharat Nagar chowk here and later at the bus stand police post when a class VII student of the school was allegedly beaten up by a teacher, who later also is reported to have manhandled the victim’s father and grandfather.

500 children examined at dental camp

More than 500 schoolchildren were examined at a free dental check up camp organised by Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College and Hospital at Springdale Public School here today. A team of doctors, headed by Dr V.K. Kapila, Reader, Department of Community Dentistry, provided a comprehensive dental check-up to the students with the help of a mobile dental van.

Yoga inculcates aptitude for spirituality: German expert
SIX feet three inches tall Karoline of Germany knows very little Hindi. Many times it becomes difficult for her to explain her points. But she is more conversant with the ancient Indian curative system of yoga than many yoga practitioners around. Call her yoga freak and she won’t mind it. Karoline came to India seven years ago to learn vastu shastra. After completing her masters in landscape architecture from Germany, she pursued PhD in vastu shastra from Bangalore. During this period she met yoga master Bharat Thakur and learned yoga.

200 children immunised
Ludhiana, January 19
Under the ongoing vaccination campaign in the district, a special camp was organised by the New Sabzi Mandi government dispensary at Anandpuri Gurdwara on here today. More than 200 children up to the age of 5 were immunised against six infectious diseases.
