Six held for stealing vehicles, valuables
Ludhiana, January 6
The city police today announced the arrest of six members of two different inter-state gangs of thieves and recovered vehicles and valuables including mobile sets and jewellery from them.

Ludhiana, January 6
A number of students of Government Senior Secondary School, including those of primary classes, Civil Lines here, are forced to study outside in the open, shivering in cold, as a group of policemen , belonging to other police districts and posted for special duty at the DMC here, have not vacated some rooms taken up for their “temporary” stay during the winter holidays.

The Haibowal police today claimed to have busted a gang of youths, who got new cars financed on fake or forged documents and later sold the vehicles or their parts in Delhi. One member of the gang has been arrested.

CMCH project to provide relief to tsunami victims

Keeping its more than a century-old tradition of coming to the aid of suffering humanity alive, the Christian Medical College and Hospital here has undertaken a project to provide medical and psycho-social relief and rehabilitation to the hapless victims of the killer tsunami in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu.

Two persons were killed and another two hurt in a road accident when a Bolero and a tractor-trailer collided on a bridge near Sidhwanbet late last night.

Punjab National Bank (PNB) today launched PNB Spectrum Fixed Deposit Scheme. It replaces the existing five FD schemes namely ordinary FD, special FD, vaarshik aay yojana, multi benefit FD and anupam FD schemes, said Mr S.S. Kohli, CMD, today.

Auto part manufacturers decry steel price hike

The Ludhiana Motor Parts Manufacturers Association today said the recent steel price hike was affecting auto parts manufacturing industry in the state.

Spice to have 13 new sites in city
Ludhiana, January 6
Spice Telecom is planning to install 13 new sites in the city. The company added 37 new towers last month including 12 in Ludhiana alone to increase capacity, said Mr Devinder Thakur, regional manager.

Octogenarian enjoys making leaf paintings

Mr Inderjeet Singh Raja, (80), may be leading a retired life, but his life is full of colour. Even now he is as busy as when he was young, making beautiful leaf paintings and arranging exhibition of his paintings at various cities in Punjab. Age, seems to have not to dampen his spirits and passion for art.

Punjabi singers enthral
Ludhiana, January 6

Noted Punjabi singers including Romy Gill, Lakhwinder Lucky and others enthralled people here last night. The cultural night was organised by Win Cable and ITV to mark the new year celebrations in the open theatre at Punjabi Bhavan.

Ghazal programme organised
Mandi Gobindgarh, January 6
The local Desh Bhagat Institute of Management and Computer Science organised a ghazal programme on January 6. It was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner S.K. Ahluwalia. Ustad Shameer Iqbal shared the magic of his voice and ghazals in the programme. Eminent personalities of the area, teachers and students enjoyed the ghazals.

Deputy Commissioner S.K. Ahluwalia, along with SDM Sandeep Hans and SMO Tirath Ram, inspected medicine store of the Civil Hospital here today. The store had been sealed along with medicine stores of other hospitals in the district a few days ago.
