Website on Choi Kwang Do launched
Chandigarh, December 20 Speaking at the launch function, Mr V.S. Kundu, president of the school (Chandigarh region) said the site ckdschools.com had a photo-gallery depicting pictures of its members in action, besides pictures of Grandmaster Kwang Choi, founder of this martial art. It has information on the locations of CKD schools in India, news, frequently asked questions and a guest book where viewers can leave their comments and feedback. The site allows access to the registered students of Choi Kwang Do to the Choi Kwang Do Worldwide network being operated by the Choi Kwang Do International Organisation. He said no competitions were held in this sport anywhere in India or world and was only training and workshops were held where people were told about its benefits and asked to practice for their overall well-being. Mr Kundu described Choi Kwang Do was as a new martial art based on many years of scientific research on body movements, skeleton and joint structure, human biochemistry and other cutting edge clinical research on physiology, biomechanics and kinesiology. He said the major difference between Choi Kwang and other traditional martial arts was that all movements and techniques in it were designed in conformity with the scientific structure of the human body. Hence, like in all graceful sports such as gymnastics, swimming and dances, all movements in Choi Kwang Do are natural, graceful, balanced and fluid. This was in contrast with the stiff, tense and formal movements practiced in traditional martial arts. It has no lock-out movements and the patterns and techniques are easy, sequential and flowing. “The whole system is built around the design of the human body and works to improve the health and fitness of the body while imparting self-defence skills in a safe and injury-free manner,” adds Mr B.S. Thapa, Technical Director of the school. He further said Choi Kwang Do was suitable for all ages. Mr Thapa stated that Choi Kwang Do Martial Arts School would organise a three-day training camp beginning December 22, at the Skating Rink, Sector 10, Chandigarh. It would be conducted by Master Marshall Pereira, black belt 6th Dan from USA, who has been teaching martial arts for over 20 years. The training camp would not only cater to advanced martial artists but was also open to beginners. |
Junior national archery tourney from Dec 26
Chandigarh, December 20 He said in all 26 units affiliated to the AAI would take part in three events — Indian, FITA and Mixed/Olympic — in both boys and girls section. The meet is for under-18 age group. Mr Maha Singh said equipment worth Rs 2.5 lakh had been procured from a Kolkata-based firm. He said 40 stands would be put up for the events. Meanwhile, he lamented that during the past many years CAA had been seeking financial grant from the UT Sports department, but in vain. He said though the sports was being accorded gradation, for holding any state meet or national meet CAA did not get any money from the UT Administration. Another disturbing factor was that for training the youngsters no formal coach and no coaching centre had been sanctioned by the department for a sport which is an olympic discipline. He said with Indian archers showing great potential in the world arena, UT Administration would hopefully come to the aid of CAA and the archres. On the forthcoming nationals, he said the players would be lodged in the hostel of DAV School. The technical officials have been approved by the AAI. Meanwhile, a one-day UT state archery meet in junior section will also be organised at the DAV School tomorrow. The AG (Audit), Punjab, defeated the AG, Srinagar, J&K, 1-0 in the inaugural tie of the North Zone Audit Football Tournament played here on Monday at the football stadium, Sector 17. The lone goal was scored by Sanjay in the 34th minute. Earlier, the three-day meet was inaugurated by Mr Mohinder Singh, AG (A&E) Haryana, Chandigarh, and presided over by Mr Ashwani Attri, AG, (Audit), Haryana. |
Don’t harass lovers, SP tells cops
Mohali, December 20 Mr Aggarwal, who held a meeting with police officials, said he had directed police personnel not to harass young boys and girls who thronged parks and behaved in a decent manner during daytime. He said the police had to intervene when youngsters tried to hid behind bushes and indulged in vulgar activities as parks were public places. The SP held a meeting after allegations were levelled that police personnel harassed a young boy and a girl who visited Rose Garden in Phase IIIB1. Mr Aggarwal said the boy had been called. He told the police that he could not meet his girlfriend in the college and as such had called her to the park. When police personnel asked the boy about his driving licence, the latter said he was not carrying it. However, the licence was later recovered from his pocket. Even the girl tried to mislead the police by giving a wrong address. He said later the boy apologised for his activities. |
