175 examined at medical camp
Panchkula, December 12 The camp was for eye and orthopaedic problems. Free medicines were also distributed to the patients. Another free medical camp was organised by Mahavir International at Jain Sthanak, Sector 17, and 600 patients were examined in this camp. As many as 10 patients, suffering from eye ailments, were identified for operations, and they will be operated upon at General Hospital, Sector 6. |

Chandigarh, December 12 Netball trials The Netball Association of Chandigarh will hold the selection trials tomorrow to select the Chandigarh Senior Women Netball team for the Senior National Netball Championship to be held at Delhi from December 28 to 31. Korfball team A 23-member City Korfball team has been selected by the Chandigarh Korfball Association for a coaching camp to finally select the team for the forthcoming National Korfball Championship to be held from December 24 to 28 at Hyderabad. The probables were selected on the basis of Second State Korfball Meet concluded recently. The 10-day camp will begin here tomorrow at SGGS College, Sector 26. The probables are, Deepak, Jatinder, Samardeep, Sandeep, Navpreet Kaur, Karamjeet, Mrinalini, Gurpratap, Rajnish, Sonia, Preetika Goyal, R. Deep, Umesh Gupta, H. Singh, Ravinder, Sandeep, Shiva, Nikhil Hooda, Devinder, Priya, Shalini, Archana and Sukhjeet. |

Chandigarh, December 12 Skipper of the winning team Rahul Joshi scored 66 runs, while Tej Gobind and Mohit Gupta played a stellar role for Quark Media XI in beating HFC XI. Tej Gobind was also declared man of the match. Yesterday, Infosys XI had beaten Sigma XI by five wickets to enter the finals. They will now meet Quark Media on December 18. Brief scores:

Tiny tots of Doon International School, Sector 69, Mohali, participated in the annual sports day of the school held on the school premises last evening. It also had drills and athletics events. PU campus win women’s air rifle title
Chandigarh, December 12 In the individual section, in air rifle women, Prabhleen Chauhan of GGS College for Women, Sector 32, Chandigarh, was adjudged the individual best with score of 386/400 followed by Chetanpreet Nilon of the PU campus at 385/400 while Avneet Kaur of PU regional centre, Muktsar, got third place with 383/400. In the air pistol section, Minerva Singh of the PU campus with 365/400 got first place, while Rajvinder Kaur and Jasveer Kaur, both from Dasmesh Girls College, Badal, attained the second and third place when they shot 329/400 and 323/400. In the air rifle section, Sarabjit Singh Randhawa with 582/600 was declared the individual overall best shooter followed by Ashreet Singh Dhaliwal also of the PU campus who shot 569/600 while Arjun Pratap Singh of GGD SD College, Chandigarh, with 542/600 was adjudged the third best shooter. Patiala guy emerges fastest
Chandigarh, December 12 City bowler Bharat Sharma, however, brought cheers to the local cricket fraternity when he bowled at 130 kmph and remained at number two. The winner was given rs 8000 while runner-up was awarded Rs 2000. Hardewinder Singh was also the national runner-up when he bowled at 134 kmph. Meanwhile, VRV Singh of Chandigarh , who was in under-19 Indian Cricket team last year and also the winner of the last year’s Chandigarh leg of ESPN Speedster show, has been given a wild card entry for the final leg at Mumbai. Since the today’s winner Hardewinder Singh will be busy playing in an under-19 cricket tie next week, as the dates clashed with the final leg at Mumbai on December 19, so VRV Singh will represent Chandigarh region. The runner-up of today’s leg, Bharat Sharma has played for an under-19 Indian Schools team in the Commonwealth Cricket meet held last year in India. He is a trainee at the DAV Cricket Coaching Centre and coached by SAI coach Sukhwinder Bawa. Earlier this evening, 15 bowlers qualified for the final round on the basis of a target of 124 kmph and above. Among those who qualified seven were from Chandigarh and rest from other places of the region. There names were Sunny Singh (128km ph), Vikas Chauhan (127 km ph), Parveen Sharma (126 km ph), Sarul Kanwar (125 km pr), Baljinder Singh (124 km ph) and Sunil (124 km ph). |
