A large number of candidates aspiring to win in the elections to the District Bar Association have stolen a march over their opponents by starting their campaign even before filing their nominations. The filing of nominations would start tomorrow.

The polls, scheduled to be held on December 20, were keenly contested each year. In view of the high stakes in the over 1200-strong body, candidates were leaving no chance to ensure their victory and had already started campaining and distributing pamphlets and among the voters.

The present incumbent - Mr Balwinder Goel — was once again in the fray for the post of President.

He had already started his door-to-door campaign much before the appointment of the Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officer.

The second contender for the post of DBA presidentship was Mr Dev Raj Sharma. He was also trying to persuade the voters in his favour.

Till now, Mr Harish Rai Dhanda, Member Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, who had headed the DBA for more than five times did not seem to be in race for the presidentship. Sources claimed that his supporters were urging him to contest the elections.

The vice-president of DBA, Mr Nagesh Singh Gill, had also decided to try his luck for the same post again. Mr Gurdeep Singh Gill and Mr P.L. Anand were also trying to woo the voters for the vice-presidentship.
