Sanjay Public School win football title

Sanjay Public Senior Secondary School, Sector 44-B, Chandigarh, won the UT Inter-School Under-19 Boys Football Championship by beating DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, Chandigarh, 4-0 in the final today at GMSS School-23. SPS-44 have won the title for the third time in a row.

Jagmeet struck the first goal in the 45th minute. Dipankar Sharda made the score 2-0 in the 50th minute. Ajay Bhatt netted the third goal in the 56th minute. Eight minutes later, Ajay Kumar scored the fourth goal.

Cricket tourney: Green Field Public School beat Paragon Public School by eight wickets in the final of the fourth Manohar Singh Majithia Memorial Mohali Inter-School Cricket Tournament played at C-Ground, PCA Cricket Stadium, Mohali, today.

Batting first, Paragon were all out for 112 in 27 overs. Navdeep Singh (27) and Sarabjot (20) were the main scorers while Amit Kumar (2 for 25) and Harpreet Singh (2 for 36) were the main wicket takers for Green Field.

In reply, Green Field Public School chased the target in 23 overs. Rahul Mankotia (26 not out) and Sukhvinder Singh (36 not out) were the main scorers.

Inter-school carrom: The fourth Saupin’s Inter-School Carrom Tournament, conducted under the aegis of the Panckhkula District Carrom Association, concluded at Saupin's School today.

The results (finals): boys senior (class IX and above): Mandeep Singh b Vikrant Garg; boys junior (Classes VI to VIII): Puneet Garg (DAV-8) b Shiva Dhir (Saupin’s School) 25-9; boys cadet (up to Class V): Sahil Garg (Bhavan Vidyalaya) b Sampat (Saupin's School) 25-2; girls senior (Class IX and above): Ridhi (Saupin's School) b Yamini Vashisht (Bhavan) 25-22; girls junior (Classes VI to VIII): Palak Singla (Saupin's School) b Ashima Khanna (Saupin’s) 25-0; and girls cadet (up to Class V): Shreshtha Aggarwal (Saupin’s) b Bhagya Shree (Saupin’s) 25-5.

Under-14 cricket: Rajat Taneja (75 runs) and Himanshu Sharma (4 for 17) helped Cricket Academy 37 beat Stepping Stones Cricket Club by 55 runs in the first Aresson Trophy under-14 Cricket Tournament.

Brief scores: Cricket Academy-37: 170 in 25 overs (Rajat Taneja 75, Darpan 46, Devinder Singh 25; Samir 3 for 24, Pritpal 1 for 24); and Stepping Stones Cricket Club: 115 all out in 20.3 overs (Paras 35 not out, Tarun 14; Himanshu Sharma 4 for 17, Ishank Carles 2 for 14, Karan 2 for 14).

Spice, Quark win: Spice XI beat Infosys XI by six wickets in a league match of the Cry Cadence Corporate Cricket Challenge played at Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula, yesterday. Manan Dogra was declared man-of-the-match.

Brief scores: Infosys: 105 in 23 overs (Vneet Kumar 18, Amit Garg 24; Vivek Pathania 4 for 16, Ashish Malhotra 2 for 9); and Spice: 109 for 4 in 21.5 overs (Manan Dogra 37 n.o., Nitin Sharma 18, Puneet Soti 3 for 18).

In other matches, Quark XI defeated DSM XI by five wickets, while Sigma defeated ICICI Bank by three wickets to enter the semifinals.

In another match, HFCL crushed Tata Tele Services Ltd by 82 runs to enter the semifinal. Amit Bhardwaj of HFCL was declared man of the match.

Cross-country meet: Tender Heart School, Sector 33-B, today organised the ICSE Inter-School Cross-Country Championship (Chandigarh Region). The participating schools, besides the hosts, were St Kabir, Little Flower Convent (Pkl) Saupin's (Pkl) St Stephen's, St Xavier's (Pkl), New Angels, Zirakpur, DAV, Dera Bassi, and Carmel Convent, Nahan. The overall championship trophy was won by Carmel Convent School, Nahan.

The winners: Group A: boys: Jashanpreet Singh (St Stephen’s); Group A: girls: Argiya Desouza (Carmel Convent, Nahan); Group B: boys: Simranjeet Singh (St Stephen’s); Group B: girls: Ramandeep Kaur (St Kabir).

St Joseph’s centre win ball badminton meet

Defending champion St Joseph's Coaching Centre, Sector 44, won the women's title in the 6th Chandigarh Senior State Ball Badminton Championship for Sardar Piara Singh Trophy at DSCW-45 today. In the final, St Joseph's beat GGSCW, Sector 26, 29-28, 25-29, 29-12. In the men's final, DAVC-10 will meet Flankers Ball Badminton Club tomorrow.

Shivalik Trophy: Suraj (74), Arjit Gupta (68) and Yugran (50 n.o.) enabled DAV School, Sector 8, to outclass Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 32, by 249 runs in the league match of Shivalik Trophy at DAV School cricket grounds here today.

Brief score: DAV 8: 305 for 6 in 35 overs (Suraj 74, Arjit Gupta 68, Yuvraj 50 no, Michel Vishal 38, Sarul 28, Chetan Sood 2 for 26, Neeraj 2 for 25); and GMSSS-32: 56 all out in 11.2 overs (Vipin 21, Naresh 4 for 8, Sarul 3 for 1).

Spic-XI win: Vaneet Chawla (61) enabled Spic-XI to beat Inde Dutch Systems by seven wickets in the inaugural IT Cup League Cricket Tournament which got underway at DAV College, Sector 10, here today.

Brief scores: IDS XI: 134 for 9 in 20 overs (Lalit Joshi 52, Jagjit Saini 38, Raj Abhisek Pattania 26; Dharamvir Yadav 4 for 10, Amarit Kumar 3 for 34, Deepinder Singh Chhabra 2 for 28); and Spic-XI 137 for 3 in 19.3 overs (Vaneet Chawla 61, Manoj Kumar 38 not out, Jagdish 22 not out, Bhim Singh 2 for 28).

7 school sites announced

Chandigarh, November 28
The Chandigarh Administration yesterday announced that five sites for primary schools and two for middle schools were being offered for allotment in the city.
The sites were in sectors 21-A, 25-West, 38-West, 38, 52 and 56 and Milk Colony, Dhanas.

The sites would be allotted as per the scheme for allotment of land to educational institutions on leasehold basis. The Deputy Commissioner-cum-Estate Officer, Mr Arun Kumar, said the application forms would be available from December 3. The last date for submitting the form would be December 20.

Meanwhile, the Recognised Schools Management Association has decried the policy of the Administration of not reserving any sites for the schools currently running in residential areas. It has demanded that bylaws be amended to allow the schools to continue in residential areas.
