QUIZ: The economic forum of the local S.L. Bawa DAV College ORGANISED a quiz competition on Tuesday in which five teams from different classes participated. The contest had four rounds of general knowledge and current affairs, sports, economics and history and culture. The team consisting of Vishal, Sandeep and Sunil was adjudged the best .

KILLED: Madur Kashini Bishaka, a mahant of Madur Bihari Satsang Bhavan, was killed in a road accident near a petrol station here on Monday. An unidentified vehicle hit him and he died on the spot. A case has been registered.

STOLEN: Articles worth Rs 1 lakh have been stolen from Harindera general store. Mr Harinder Kumar, owner of the store, said four mobile phones, prepaid cards and other articles were taken away by the burglars.

INJURED: More than 12 bus passengers, including driver of the bus, sustained injuries when a mini-bus overturned near Dosanjh Kalan village here on Monday night. The injured included Maghar Singh (driver), Narain Das, Harjinder, Jarnail Singh, Iqbal Kaur, Gyan Ram and Promila Devi. A case has been registered.

NO HOLIDAY: Some of private educational institutions and banks remained open on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr here on Monday. Mr Sayeed Nazir Ahmed Nazir, president, the Anjuman Islamia Committee, Punjab, has urged the government to ensure a public holiday on Id-ul-Fitr so that all Muslims can participate in Id prayers. He also demanded stern action against the violators.

THEFT: Thieves burgled a house in Housing Board Colony, Sector 15, here on Monday night. They decamped with valuables worth several thousands of rupees. The owner of the house, Mr Mahinder, had gone out of station.

ASSAULTED: A group of armed persons assaulted Mahant Bhulan Das and Sumer Singh and injured them at Kheri Damkan village, about 30 km from here, on Tuesday. The mahant alleged that the assailants wanted to occupy his dera. The police is investigating the matter.

LOOTED: Four unidentified motor cycle-borne armed youths reportedly looted a petrol station on the Sonepat-Gohana road here on Sunday night. They injured two employees of the petrol station and decamped with Rs 30,000. A case has been registered.

KILLED: Bintu, alias Roshan Lal, a resident of Pio Mynyari village, was crushed to death by a car on the G.T. Road near Kundli village, about 25 km from here, on Sunday night. The victim was crossing the road when the accident occurred. A case has been registered.
