Seven hurt in clash

Seven persons, including a woman, were injured in a clash between residents of jhuggis in Sector 21 and those of Azad Colony this evening. The clash took place after a child went to relieve himself in a vacant plot in Sector 21, to which Hawa Singh objected.

PUDA sleeps over Phase V drainage project

Over three years after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed PUDA to execute a drainage project aimed at preventing flooding of Phase V, Mohali, the authority is still dragging its feet on the project.

’71 war veteran dead

CVD Prevention Project to be launched

To create awareness about the risks of the cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in the city, three departments at the PGI — Department of Community Medicine, along with the Department of Cardiology and internal medicine — joined hands with the the UT Health Department yesterday to launch the “Chandigarh CVD Prevention Project.’’

SD College enter PU lawn tennis finals

National tennis players Harsimran Kaur of GGD SD College, Sector 32 and Neha Singh of Chandigarh College of Architecture, Sector 10 helped their college teams in making it to the final of the Panjab University Inter College Lawn Tennis (Women) Tournament played here today at PU Campus grounds. In the first semi-final, GGD SD College, Sector 32 got the better of PU Campus 2-0 while CCA-10 defeated MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36 by 2-1.

Entry to DC’s office regulated
Chandigarh, October 22
Two days after a clerk of the Estate Office was caught by the CBI for allegedly taking a bribe, entry to the Estate Office and also to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Sector 17 will now be regulated. Entry for members of the public will be allowed only between 12 noon and 1 p.m, said DC Arun Kumar. At all other times entry shall be banned.

Chandigarh needs roads of concrete, UT Administrator Justice O.P. Verma said yesterday. He asked the Chief Engineer to prepare a conceptual plan in this regard.
