People educated about pulse polio

Ludhiana, October 5
Preparations are underway for the pulse polio immunisation campaign in district to be held from October 10. Dr Amita Jain, Medical Officer, in charge, RC, New Shivpuri, said while addressing a gathering of devotees at the Jain Sthanak. People had come to listen to the discourse of Jain saint Suman Muniji Maharaj.

Parents were asked to bring their children in 0-5 years of age to the nearest immunisation booth on October 10 for administration of polio drops.

The people were also educated about the preventive measures against water-borne diseases like cholera, gastroenteritis, hepatitis and typhoid etc and vector-borne diseases like malaria, dengue and kala azar.

KVM cricketers reach semis

Ludhiana, October 5
Continuing with their winning spree, local Kundan Vidya Mandir (KVM), Civil Lines, registered a convincing 38-run victory over DAV Public School, Amritsar, to secure a berth in the last four of the All-India Bhai Gobind Singh Pasricha Memorial Cricket Tournament being played at MGN School, Adarsh Nagar, Model Town, Jalandhar, today.

KVM won the toss and decided to bat. In the stipulated 25 overs, they made 171 for the loss of three wickets, with the main contributions coming from Bharat Malhotra and Sanchit. Bharat made 79 runs with the help of five hits to the fence and two sixes while Sanchit scored 43 runs. Geetansh Khaira remained unconquered at 25.

For DAV Public School, Amritsar, Jasmeet (1 for 12), Surinder Kumar (1 for 24) and Navdeep (1 for 36) were the successful bowlers.

KVM bowlers restricted their opponents to 133 runs with just one ball to spare. For Amritsar, only Navdeep (28), Satwant (13) and Harpartap (16) could reach the double figure. For the winners, Jiten Singhania (3 for 20), Vishal Marwaha (2 for 30) and Piyush (2 for 29) were the main wicket takers.

Everest school cagers win title

Ludhiana, October 5
A function was organised at the Guru Nanak Stadium here today to honour members of the basketball team of the Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar, Ludhiana. The team had won the 50th Punjab State Basketball Championship held at Patiala recently.

Students of the school, including international level players Jagdeep Singh, Yadwinder Singh stamped their supremacy to win the title. Mr Teja Singh Dhaliwal, general secretary, Punjab Basketball Association along with Mr Vijay Chopra, vice-president, Ludhiana District Basketball Association, Mr Balkar Singh Brar, general secretary, Punjab Handball Association and Dr S. Subramanian, senior coach, Mr Rajinder Sharma, Principal of the school, along with other trainees were present on the occasion.
