Free parking scheme launched in Sector 34
Chandigarh, September 10 Nothing will be charged for parking. The six points will be maintained by the Chandigarh police. The same token will be used for any of the 16 parking lots in the market. The scheme was inaugurated today by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Rajesh Kumar, in the presence of the Municipal Commissioner, Mr M. P. Singh, and the SSP, Mr Gaurav Yadav, among others. Mr M. P. Singh, however, expressed doubts over the success of the scheme, saying that a similar effort had been made in Sector 17, but it failed, leading to the imposition of paid parking there. Under the new parking arrangement, the parking area has been divided for four and two-wheelers. Parking lots have been marked with paint and cones and barricades. The DSP (South), Mr S. S. Randhawa, said the area would be manned round-the-clock in three shifts. Mr Rajesh Kumar urged the people to cooperate to make the scheme a success, which would gradually be extended to other parking lots to reduce vehicle thefts and prevent traffic chaos in parking lots. |
