PCCTU plans strike
Ludhiana, September 6
Perturbed over the delay in releasing arrears of grant by the government on account of withdrawal of cut imposed on the grant, the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) has decided to observe two-period strike on September 8.

Jasbir Jassi goes sober, opposes vulgarity
Ludhiana, September 6
Punjabi pop star, Jasbir Jassi of “Dil Ley Gai Kudi Gujrat Di fame”, came out strongly against the increasing vulgarity in video albums. He said he might start his own production if the video-makers of his songs insist on including vulgar scenes for sales promotions. Jassi was in the town today to announce his shows being organised across the state by a liquor company.

National Club win cricket meet
Doraha, September 6
In a state-level cricket tournament organised at Guru Nanak Stadium, Doraha, yesterday, National Club, Doraha, defeated Marx Club, Jalandhar. Initially, the balling was done by Marx Club that secured 147 runs. National Club scored the runs in just 13 overs.

Ban on ‘zinda’ dance shows
Ludhiana, September 6
Like the last year, this year also the district administration has banned the holding of “zinda” dance shows performed by semi-clad girls at the Chhapar mela. The SSP, Jagraon, Mr Rajiv Ahir, said the ban was imposed on such shows. He said the police had not given the permission to the show organisers to put up stalls at the venue.
