Ban on ‘zinda’ dance shows
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, September 6
Like the last year, this year also the district administration has banned the holding of “zinda” dance shows performed by semi-clad girls at the Chhapar mela. The SSP, Jagraon, Mr Rajiv Ahir, said the ban was imposed on such shows. He said the police had not given the permission to the show organisers to put up stalls at the venue.

Last year the show was banned after newspapers carried out reports describing the plight of the dancing girls who were forced to perform. The Punjab State Commission for Women had also directed the administration to ban such shows two years ago.

Regarding the noise pollution, Mr Ahir said this year only a few loudspeakers would be allowed to be used. He said cops in mufti would be deployed to check prostitution.
