6 cases of vehicle theft registered

The city police has registered six cases of vehicle thefts, including two cars and four two-wheelers and arrested a thief, who was caught red-handed while stealing a scooter from Sector 19, yesterday, according to information released today.

A newly married woman committed suicide in Saini Bhavan, Sector 24, here today evening. It is learnt that Ritu Sharma, wife of Rajesh Kumar Prashar, consumed some poisonous substance in the evening when her husband was away.

Four arrested in a dowry case
Panchkula, September 6
The police has arrested four persons — Sanjeev Verma, Bal Krishan Verma, Tilak and Seema, on charges of harassing Sanjeev’s wife, Ashu Geeta, for bringing insufficient dowry. All accused were produced before Magistrate Ashok Aggarwal today.

Senate poll for science seat challenged

A candidate from the science faculty of the Senate, Dr Harjinder Singh Laltoo, has filed a petition before the Vice-President of India, who is also the Chancellor of Panjab University, challenging the Senate election for the science seat. The election was held on August 25.

Shop for a cause
‘Shop with a cause’ is the slogan of the 10-day exhibition of handicraft items from Bengal and Bihar that is going on at Panchayat Bhawan here.
The exhibition has been organised by Kolkata-based Swayambhar NARI, an all women self help group that encourages rural artisans to gain economic independence.

IMA opposes harassment of docs for negligence

This comes in light of a case against a doctor in Ludhiana for giving an injection intrathecally, which is not meant to be given that way.

Table soccer launched in The Gurukul

Table soccer, having its origins in Europe in 19th century, finally landed in India and made its debut with first centre being launched here today at The Gurukul.
Table soccer is played on a wooden table with 137 centimetres length and 77 metres width.

DAV gymnasts shine
Chandigarh, September 6
DAV College’s gymnastics centre, Sector 10, won medals in the 32nd Chandigarh State Gymnastics Championship at the ITBP gymnasium hall in Behlana last evening. Dhan Bahadur and Manish Kumar were declared the all-round best in the sub-junior and junior boys' section, respectively. While Manish claimed four gold medals, Dhan Bahadur bagged three gold medals.
