2 theft accused flee jail, 1 held
Chandigarh, June 25

Emotional card did the trick
Chandigarh, June 25
The Crime Branch today played an emotional card to re-arrest Navneet within hours after he escaped from the lockup. As soon as Navneet escaped, he rang up his sister Ashu, who works in a finance company in Sector 35, on her mobile phone.

An LPG-run Maruti 800 car (DL 2CK 3630) was charred when its engine caught fire near the official residence of the Haryana Chief Minister in Sector 3.

Prominent Hindi writer Swadesh Deepak (62) underwent angioplasty at Fortis Heart Institute in Phase VIII, here today. Mr Om Prakash Chautala, Haryana Chief Minister, who was recuperating at Silver Oaks hospital here after an operation, today called on Deepak at Fortis to inquire about his health.

Snake enters hostel room

Gagandeep Singh, an occupant of Aggarwal Hostel in Sector 15 here, had a narrow escape when a snake sneaked into his room yesterday night. It was killed with the help of other occupants of the hostel.

The CBI today busted an immigration racket through which 341 persons were sent abroad on fake documents in alleged connivance with a former Protector of Immigrants based in the city. The development follows raids conducted as part of a nationwide and anti-corruption drive.

Doctor held for harassing wife

The police has arrested a doctor working in a private hospital here, after his wife had accused him of harassing her for bringing inadequate dowry at the time of marriage.

Governor’s driver beaten up

The Haryana Governor’s driver Palaki Ram was today allegedly dragged out of his car and beaten up by a drunken driver on the Sector 23 and 24 round-about.

CBSE to allow change of subjects
Chandigarh, June 25
The CBSE will now allow students pursuing subjects involving practicals to switch over to subjects that do not involve practicals. A Class XI student of science stream will be able to take up arts subjects, but the reverse will not be allowed.

Job-oriented courses for IT students launched
Chandigarh, June 25
Job-oriented study courses for college-going students were launched by the Chandigarh Administration this afternoon to train students in Information Technology. The courses would be started in six colleges of the city from August 1.

Field day for Amit in tennis tourney

Friday was a lucky day for Amit Chauhan as he reached two finals of the ongoing Fort Ramgarh Total Tennis Championship being played here at the Total Tennis Academy YMCA, Sector 11, here. Amit made it to the finals each in under-12 and under-14 sections.
