Woman tests positive for HIV

Panchkula, June 25
A 30-year-old slum-dweller and mother of three children, who was admitted to the General Hospital, Sector 6, for brain tuberculosis, has been tested positive for HIV. She was admitted to the hospital on June 20 and was being treated by Dr Sanjay Malik. TNS

Field day for Amit in tennis tourney

Chandigarh, June 25
Friday was a lucky day for Amit Chauhan as he reached two finals of the ongoing Fort Ramgarh Total Tennis Championship being played here at the Total Tennis Academy YMCA, Sector 11, here. Amit made it to the finals each in under-12 and under-14 sections. He upset second seed Abhairaj Singh in boys’ under-14 section in a gruelling semifinal. Garry Amor and Akshat Joshi were the other players who sailed into the finals of the under-12 and under-14 sections, respectively.

In the Abhairaj-Amit encounter, the former was able to take the first set by beating Amit Chauhan 7-6 (12-10), saving two set points and playing the longest tie-breaker of the championship in the process. Amit played like a true champion, without giving much of chance to Abhairaj. He will now face Akshat Joshi in the finals. Akshat he played flawless tennis to defeat Karanvir, a main contender, 6-3, 6-1. In the boys’ under-10 category, top seed Samin Bhargav defeated unseeded Rishabh Dev to face Nischay in the finals.

In the girls’ under-12, Shilpa Naruka, Shivangi Bansal, Prabhamrit and Ashima Bhatia made it to the semifinals. In the girls’ under-14 age category, Purna, Pallak Grewal, Divya Rangrey and Prabhamrit Kaur made to the semifinals.

Results: Boys’ under-10 (semifinals): Samin Bhargav b Rishabh Dev 6-1, 6-2; Nishchay Rawal b Harmeet Singh 6-1, 6-1.

Boys’ under-12 semifinal: Amit Chauhan b Jivtesh S. Kang 6-1, 6-2; Garry. S. Amor b Fateh S. Ladhar 6-4, 7-6 (3).

Boys’ under-14 (semi-finals): Akshat Joshi b Karanvir Singh 6-3, 6-1; Amit Chauhan b Abhairaj Singh 6-7 (10-12), 6-4, 6-3.

Girls’ under-12 (quarter-finals): Shilpa Naruka b Karishma Chandana 8-6; Prabhamrit Kaur b Sonali Bansal 8-2; Ashima Bhatia b Shreya Jain 8-1.

Girls’ under-14 (quarter-finals): Purna b Shilpa Naruka 8-1; Pallak Grewal b Tanvi Goel 8-5; Divya Rangrey b Shivangi Bansal 8-4; Prabhamrit Kaur b Gauri Sharma 8-2.
