SUMMER CAMP: The Ladies Club of Guru Nanak Dev University will organise a 12-day summer camp for children from Monday on the university campus. Prof Jagjit Kaur, president of the club, said children would be imparted training in yoga, classical dance, art and craft and bhangra.

PATWARI HELD: Sleuths of the Vigilance Bureau nabbed a patwari, Keshevpal, while taking a bribe of Rs 600 from Gurnam Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur, on the promise of instituting an “inteqal” of a mortgaged place. The SSP, Vigilance, Mr Dilbagh Singh, stated that the complainant, Gurnam Singh, had alleged that the patwari was indulging in corruption.

BJP MEMO: BJP workers, led by Mr Avinash Rai Khanna, MP and state BJP president, Mr Hans Raj Nakra, Mr Sat Pal Sareen and Mr Vinod Sharma, marched in a procession to the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday and presented a memorandum to the President of India through Mr Kirandeep Singh Bhullar, DC, in protest against the inclusion of “tainted” ministers in the Union Cabinet. They stated in the memorandum that cases relating to the ministers’ criminal background were still pending in courts. They urged the President to sack these ministers.

MEETING: To review flood protection works, a special meeting of government officers, presided over by Mr Kirandeep Singh Bhullar, Deputy Commissioner, was held here on Friday. Col G.S. TWO KILLED: A boy Taranpreet, was killed and his mother, Kamaljeet, and father, Jasvir Singh, were seriously injured when a tractor-trailer hit their scooter near Aslamabad on Thursday night. Kamaljeet and Jasvir Singh were admitted to the local Civil Hospital, where Kamaljeet succumbed to her injuries. The Sadar police has registered a case against the tractor-trailer driver.

KIDNAPPED: A Bihari migrant on Friday kidnapped the two-and-a-half-year-old son of another migrant from the state in Chakowal Brahimina village of the district in a bid to recover Rs 2,000 from the father of the child, the police said. Bunty was allegedly kidnapped by Lal Babu from outside the hut of Vinod Kumar when the latter and his wife were away. The Bhullowal police has registered a case against Lal Babu.

INSPECTION: The enforcement wing of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) here on Friday inspected power connections of the Shital group of companies. Sources said teams of the enforcement wing downloaded the data of power consumed and other statistics from the electronic meters of six units of the Shital group. Detailed inspection reports of these units were later submitted to the subdivision concerned.
