Vijay, Nitin star for Alcon Academy

A strokeful knock of 89, studded with ten boundaries and two sixes, by Vijay Anand, and a deadly spell of 6 for 19 by Nitin Kumar helped Alcon Alpine Academy defeat All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Academy by 101 runs in a league match of the inaugural Dr Sushila Tiwari Memorial Under-17 Cricket Tournament on the Yamuna Complex ground.

Scores: Alcon Academy: 207 all out in 37.1 overs (Vijay Anand 89, Joginder Singh 33, Sourabh Kumar 29, Kuldeep Negi 3 for 19, Sumit Sharma 3 for 17). AIIMS Academy: 106 all out in 31.1 overs (Deepak Kumar 30, Kuldeep Negi 29, Nitin Kumar 6 for 19, Saurabh Kumar 3 for 1).

Hansraj School move up

Neeraj Bansal played an all-round role (57 and 3 for 21) and Gourav Jangra hit an unbeaten 72 as Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh defeated Achrekar Cricket Foundation by 131 runs in the Under-17 Cricket Tournament on the Paschim Vihar ground. G E Capital defeated Max New York Life by nine wickets in the CallC Cup Cricket Tournament.

Summer cricket camp for juniors

The Indraprastha Sports Academy and Lal Bahadur Shastri Coaching Centre will jointly organise a Summer Cricket Coaching Camp for boys in the age group of 10 to 19 from May 8 on the Rama Krishna Senior Secondary School ground, M-Block, Vikaspuri, New Delhi.

A few boys from the coaching camp will be selected for a ten-day tour of Chamba (Himachal Pradesh) in June to play friendly matches there. Ramit Gill shines in title win

An all-round performance by Ramit Gill (53 and 3 for 11) and a stylish 82 by Agnesh Surya enabled Rajdhani Sports defeat I.G Bareli by nine wickets in a title clash of the All-India Rejnauar Haqe Memorial Cricket Tournament at Moradabad. VSPK School lift U-17 cricket title

New Delhi: Hosts VSPK International School, with the help of fine performances from Rohit Saini (87, 10x4, 2x6) and Jagirit Anand (30, 3 for 35), defeated Rohtak Road Gymkhana by 62 runs to annex the inaugural VSPK School Under-17 Cricket Tournament on the Roshanara Club ground.

Rohit Saini was named the man of the match. Sidhant Mandle was adjudged the best batsman while Abhishek Sakuja got the best bowler award. Kartik Bhatia earned the man of the tournament award while Papan Jain was given the best wicket-keeper award.

The awards were presented by school principal Dolly Jolly, chairman S K Gupta and India player Gautam Gambhir.

Kalmadi pleads Pillay’s case

New Delhi, May 6
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi has made a “strong plea” for the inclusion of Dhanraj Pillay in the Indian squad for the Olympic Games to be held in Athens. He said he had spoken to Indian Hockey Federation president KPS Gill on this issue and requested him to “reconsider the decision and if necessary take a fitness test for Dhanraj Pillay at the earliest”.

Mr Kalmadi said “experienced players are essential in the team and would help us gain the Olympic medal in hockey”.

The IOA chief said he had made a similar plea for the inclusion of Dhanraj Pillay for the Afro-Asian Games. Meanwhile, the “lovers” of hockey, including a few former players, made a ‘silent’ protest in front of the Dhyanchand National Stadium gate at the IHF’s ‘attitude’ towards Dhanraj.

Bedi’s coaching clinic at Dharamshala

New Delhi: The Bishan Bedi Cricket Coaching Trust (BBCCT) will conduct its summer cricket clinic at Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh) from May 15 to June 30. Bedi said players in the age groups of under-15 and under-20 will be eligible to enrol for the coaching camps.

Four players from Faridabad to join Ranji trials

Faridabad: Two players of the Vijay Yadav Academy here have been invited to join the selection camp for the Ranji trials to be held at Rohtak A . Four players from the Faridabad district, including a former member of the Indian team, Ajay Ratra and Ishan Ganda have been selected for this camp from Faridabad district. According to Mr Pravin Bhatnagar, a former Ranji trophy player and now a Coach with the Vijay Yadav academy here, Harvinder Singh and Bharat Grover of the academy have been asked to join the one-month long camp.
