Man gets 5-yr RI for firing at cops
New Delhi: A Delhi court has sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment of five years for firing at a Delhi Police personnel who intercepted him on an information that the accused was entering the capital after snatching a car in neighbouring Haryana. The incident occurred about 11 years ago on February 21, 1993, when Samunder, who was accompanied by two others, fired at cops in Narela. While the accused was apprehended at the spot, his accomplices managed to flee from the scene. The police recovered a loaded Mauser from the possession of the accused. According to the police, on receiving information about their entry in the Capital the police set up a picket and asked them to stop. The accused, however, fired and tried to escape after getting out of the car. While the others escaped Samunder was apprehended after a brief chase. Rajesh and Satpal were arrested later. While Satpal was discharged Rajesh is a proclaimed offender in the case.
