City to have fencing academy

Ludhiana, April 30
Arrangements are being made to open a fencing academy in the city. This was stated in a press note issued here yesterday by Mr Sameer Verma, vice-president, District Fencing Association.

Mr Verma said the decision to establish a fencing academy in the city was taken during a meeting of the association, which was chaired by its president, Mr A.K. Sharma. The decision to finalise the site for the academy would be taken in the near future. The meeting was attended by the office-bearers of the association and physical education instructors of the following schools: Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, Tagore Public School, Aggar Nagar, St Thomas School, Sacred Heart Convent School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Government Senior Secondary School, Cemetery Road, and Kundan Vidya Mandir School.

Addressing the meeting, Mr Sharma said the association would provide help in promoting fencing in the district. He said an NIS-trained coach had been appointed to impart training to students as well as sports teachers of various schools in the city.
