CRITICISED: Mr Harbir Singh Sandhu, office secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), on Saturday, criticised Mr Parkash Singh Badal, President, SAD, for his silence over the agenda of the NDA government on the linking of rivers of India. Mr Sandhu alleged that water level in Punjab was declining and Mr Badal had consented to give state’s water to other states.

PSEB CONTROL ROOMS: The Punjab State Electricity Board has established control rooms for better services to consumers. The control rooms would remain open for 24 hours to attend to complaints of consumers.

BAISAKHI FESTIVAL: Students of Delhi Public School (DPS) in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pardesh performed Giddha and Bhangra at the Baisakhi festival held here on Saturday. Participants were given prizes.

TEACHER AWARDED: Mrs Rajinder Kaur Sidhu, former principal, Guru Nanak College for Girls, Muktsar has been given Rashtriya Gaurav Award by the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi. Dr Bisham Naraian Singh, former Governor of Tamil Nadu, gave the awards.

BLOOD CAMP: Members of the Mahabir Kushti Akhara donated blood at a camp organised by the United Welfare Society on Saturday in the Paras Ram Nagar Area.

WELFARE SCHEMES: A sum of Rs 17 lakh, including Rs 6.60 lakh under the old-age pension scheme to 205 beneficiaries, Rs 3.16 lakh to 29 gallantry awardees, ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh under other schemes, was given to the ex-servicemen and widows in the district last year, DC Harjit Inder Singh Grewal said here on Saturday.

REMAND: Upinder Kumar of Golden Avenue Jalandhar, who was arrested with Rs 3 lakh of Hawala money near Sapror village on the G.T. Road, was remanded in police custody on Saturday for one day.

WEIGHED AGAINST COINS: Mr Charanjit Singh Atwal, SAD-BJP-BKU candidate from Phillaur ( reserved) Lok Sabha constituency, was weighed against coins by BJP activists in Katehra chowk here. Mr Atwal weighed 90 kg and coins worth Rs 11000 were used.

EXPELLED:Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee Sumita Singh said here on Saturday that Ms Premwati Goyat was not a member of the party. She said Ms Goyat was expelled from the party for six years. ms Goyat on Friday announced that she had resigned from the Congress to join the INLD.

MISHAPS: Wajir Singh of Gurana village of this district died when a vehicle hit his motor cycle near Barwala on Saturday. The Barwala police has registered a case. In another incident a person was killed at Mayor village. Jagat Singh, a resident of the same village, was injured when a vehicle hit him. He received serious injuries. He succumbed to his injuries in a hospital here. The sadar police registered a case.
