SC nod to AIIMS doctor’s trial in bribery case
New Delhi, April 18
The Supreme Court has given a go-ahead for the trial of an AIIMS doctor in a bribery case, almost six years after he had allegedly received illegal gratification of Rs 10,000 from a person for showing undue favour in awarding a contract.

Muslim woman seeks protection from livid father

The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the city police on a plea by a Muslim woman, seeking protection from her father for marrying against his wishes. Mr Justice B. N. Chaturvedi issued notice to the Police Commissioner and the father of the girl, who was allegedly threatening his daughter and the family members of her second husband.

Sonepat not one-party borough
Sonepat, April 18
The Sonepat parliamentary constituency, which came into being in 1977, has never a pocket borough of any single political party as it has been won three times by Congress, in 1983, 1984 and 1991; three times by Devi Lal’s parties in 1980, 1989 and 1998, two times by BJP and erstwhile Jan Sangh in 1977 and 1999 and one time by Independent.

Motorcycle rams into LPG-laden truck
Jhajjar, April 18
A man was killed when his motorcycle rammed into a truck loaded with LPG cylinders near Jakhoda village on the Bahadurgarh-Rohtak Road here last night. However, a major tragedy was averted, as the cabin of the truck caught fire which could not spread to the rear part of the vehicle where gas-filled cylinders were packed.

Sonepat, April 18
With the arrest of three youths, the Kharkhauda police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of auto-lifters operating in Sonepat and nearby districts. According to official sources, the arrested persons were identified as Deepak of Madina village and Hardeep and Mohit of Mandora village.

The Economic Offences Wing claimed to have arrested a couple and their three associates for running a fake finance company and cheating hundreds of innocent people on the pretext of arranging loans on lower interests.

Prostitution racket busted, 7 girls held
New Delhi, April 18
Seven girls and five pimps were arrested in two prostitution rackets, busted in the South and Central districts today. In the first racket, the South district police have arrested five girls and four pimps from a guesthouse in Greater Kailash- II last night.

Brothers killed in road accident
Rewari: Two brothers, Subhash (20) and Bhim, sons of Jai Singh of Bakhapur village, were killed when a speeding truck (RJ 14-G 4906) rammed into their scooter on the Rewari-Garhi Bolni Road near Dawana village, about 4 km from here.

In-laws held in dowry case
Sonepat, April 18
The Gohana police have registered a dowry harassment case against five members of the in-laws family on the complaint made by a housewife, Sunita Devi, of Janakpura Mohalla of Gohana town in the district.

DDCA to organise two junior tournaments
New Delhi, April 18
The Delhi and District Cricket Association will organise under-15 and under-17 tournaments for registered clubs in the second week of May. DDCA sports secretary Sunil Dev said the tournaments will be of 40 overs a side, and will be played on a league-cum-knock out basis.
