Engg college extravaganza ends

Ludhiana, April 18
Today was the final day of the three-day extravagnanza, Genesis 2004 being organised at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDEC) Ludhiana.
The concluding day saw large attendance and enthusiastic participation in the various events. Dr Y.S. Rajan, former Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, was the chief guest. Dr Rajan made a special mention of the cultural heritage of Punjab and went on to say that a ‘Pollywood’ on the lines of Bollywood would be an exciting proposition. On an academic note, he stressed on the need of imparting quality education.

In the evening a prize distribution function was held and the function ended with some songs presented by final-year students of the GNDEC, Ludhiana.

Folk song contest held

Ludhiana, April 18
An inter-house folk song competition was organised at GMT Senior Secondary Public School. The contest was presided over by Mr S.K.S. Thind and Mr S.J.S. Thind, both directors.

Kawalpreet Kaur (X) of Yellow House got first prize, while Ashima (VIII) of Red House and Subhjeet Kaur (IX) of Green House got second and third prize, respectively. The Principal, Ms Heema Jassal, stressed upon the upbringing of the students in proper environment. Participants were honoured.

Lok Adalat settles 49 cases

Amloh, April 18
Fortynine of the 77 cases were settled at a Lok Adalat presided over by Mr S.S. Panesar, Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division), and Mr K.S. Sullar, Civil Judge (Junior Division), held in the court complex here on Saturday. Most of the cases pertained to the Rent Act, matrimonial disputes and cheque bounce cases were solved.

Later, Mr Mohinder Paul, District and Sessions Judge, Fatehgarh Sahib, addressed lawyers. He said a special Lok Adalat would be held on May 1 at Fatehgarh Sahib. Ms Rajni Chhokra, Assistant District Attorney, Fatehgarh Sahib, was also present.

Bhagwant’s show amuses audience

Ludhiana, April 18
Comedian Bhagwant Mann yesterday made people roar with laughter with his jokes and witty one-liners. Yugam Creations and Diamond Cards had organised a function at Guru Nanak Bhavan here last evening and invited Mann to present his comedy show “No Life with Wife”.

This stage show of Mann has been presented all over the world. The show revolves around a couple who are always needling each other. In the show, Mann incorporates all bad customs prevalent in the society. He also explains to the audience the difference in the lives of rural and urban people.
