SCHOOL INAUGURATED: Mayor Sunil Datti on Thursday inaugurated New Rose Valley Public School in the Partap Steel Complex in the Chheharta area. The school will have classes up to Fourth Standard in English Medium and will follow the CBSE pattern.

BODY FOUND FROM SAROVAR: Body of Sandeep Syal (25) son of Mr Ashok Syal, Khajuri Gate, here was recovered on Thursday from the Achleshwar Temple’s sarovar (6 km from here) on the Batala-Jalandhar road. Sandeep Syal married six months ago. The body was brought by the police to civil hospital here for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered.

Training camp: The district cultural Society would organise a special training camp during summer vacations for the upcoming artistes to promote cultural activities in the district and children would be trained by expert coaches. After that these trained youngsters would be taken to every school of the district to perform there, so that the coming generation know about our culture and develop constructive approach, said Mr S.K. Ahluwalia, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman of the District Cultural Society, while addressing the gathering during a cultural programme organised at Bassi Pathana town on Thursday.

MURDER CASE SOLVED: The police here claimed to have solved the murder case of Puran Chand, alias Harbans, of Mukandpur Chudhrian, Rajbagh of Kathua (J&K).

YOGA CAMP: A two-day camp on yoga and stress management and naturopathy, which was organised by the Yoga Avam Sewa Sansthan, concluded here on Friday. About 500 persons took part in the camp which was presided over by Mr Anil Gupta, Chief Manager, Bank of Baroda, who is also the district president of the local unit of the Sansthan.

HOWLER: The BA Part-I students of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, who appeared for psychology Paper A (Group B) were shocked to see that the Section-B of the question paper had just six questions instead of seven. This limited the choice of the questions to be attempted by the students who had to attempt four questions from this section. Interestingly enough, the Punjabi and Hindi versions of the paper had seven questions. This added to the confusion among the students.

PARSURAM JAYANTI: The Brahamin Sabha here has decided to celebrate Bhagwan Parsuram Jayanti this year. A shobha yatra would be taken out on April 21. It would start from Durga Mandir, the sabha president, Mr Behari Lal Saddi, said. Hawan and langar will be held on April 22.

SUICIDE: Maninder Singh son of Ms Malkiat Kaur, Pharmacist posted at the local Civil Hospital, committed suicide yesterday evening by consuming poisonous pills.

WORKSHOP ON BAKERY: A 10-day workshop-cum-training on product development in bakery technology concluded at the Sant Harchand Singh Longowal Central Institute of Engineering and Technology at Longowal on Thursday. The workshop was organised by the Longowal Institute and the Netherlands Management Cooperation Programme, Netherlands. Mr J.M.J. Prinssen, and Mr P. Kruizinga, experts from the Netherlands, imparted training. More than 300 students and 30 faculty members from various institutes, universities and industry participated.

AMBALA
Electrification: The Central organisation for Railway Electrification has surpassed previous record of electrification. A meeting of chief project managers was held recently to review the work during the last year. The meeting was presided over by the General Manager Mr C.R. Kalsi. With the actual energisation of 530 route km in 2003-04 against the target of 350 km, it is 51.42 per cent higher than the set target.

TAX BAR ASSOCIATION:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Taxation Bar Association (seniors) Kaithal: president - Mr Som Parkash Choudhry; vice-president -Mr Barinder Kumar Goel; general secretary - Mr Jai Parkash Goel and treasurer - Mr Chaman Lal Wadhwa.

FACILITY FOR HARSOLA VOTERS: The voters of Harsola village who had migrated to Kaithal would exercise their franchise at the place of their choice either at Kaithal or some other place near Kaithal, said the Deputy Commissioner. Hundreds of Dalits of Harsola village had migrated from their village falling in Pai Assembly constituency of this district last year following a clash with the members of the dominant community.

LABOURER KILLED: A labourer from Rajasthan was killed when wall of a shop collapsed in the foodgrains market at Kharkhauda town here on Thursday evening, the police said on Friday. The victim belonged to Somra village in Rajasthan.
