Leak of MBBS entrance papers detected
Srinagar, April 13 Vigilance Commissioner R.V. Raju today said while probing last year’s paper leak of MD and MS entrance tests, the investigators found that the MBBS entrance examination papers were also let out. Those accused in the MD and MS test paper leak told the vigilance sleuths that they had sold papers of the MBBS entrance test, held on July 14 last year, for lakhs of rupees. Mr Raju said the state vigilance had recommended that the crime branch further investigate the case. Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, M.L. Fotedar said a case had been registered and the department has sought some document for further investigations. The revelations have pointed the needle of suspicion to the candidates who topped last year’s merit list and they have been named as beneficiaries of the leak, sources said. These candidates allegedly paid Rs 5 lakh each to get the papers, they said. The sources said the test papers were allegedly leaked by two employees of a printing press in New Delhi who stole the exam papers and sold these to the gang.

Jammu, April 13 Making an admission in reply to a public interest litigation, filed by People’s Action and Public Accountability regarding malfunctioning in the cooperative organisation, the bank admitted that 105 backdoor appointments were made since 1990. This included 35 cashier-cum-clerks, 55 peons/chowkidars, seven peons promoted as “daftris” and eight gunmen/night watchmen. All these appointments were initially made on an ad hoc basis and subsequently regularised. The bank in its reply said that such appointments were made either on the recommendations of the then directors of the board or some ministers. It admitted that there was no record available to show that any public notice was ever given for these posts. The reply was filed after a petition in the High Court alleged that 150 backdoor appointments were made by the bank during the said period.
