Eye check-up camp at Chunni Kalan

Chandigarh, March 17
About 30 villagers were examined for eye ailments during a camp held at Chunni Kalan near Landran today. According to an eye surgeon and laser specialist Dr Rajan Chugh, "The sole objective of the camp was to prevent people from falling prey to deadly eye diseases". Dr Chugh has also been imparting free eye health education for over a decade.

Rural games conclude

The annual rural games for under 16 players concluded at Sports Complex, Sector 46, here today. The two-day event had four disciplines — athletics, kabaddi, volleyball and wrestling. Mr T.S. Bawa, ex-Olympian, in hockey, gave away prizes to the winners.

Results: athletics: 200 m: Vikram (Kishangarh) 1, Vinod (Kishangarh) 2, Santosh (Kishangarh) 3; Long Jump: Vinod (Kishangarh) 1, Jaswinder (Dadumajra) 2, Mukesh Kumar (Maloya) 3.

400 m: Kulwinder Singh (Palsora) 1, Jaswinder Singh (Dadumajra) 2, Vinod Kumar (Kishangarh) 3; High Jump: Kulwinder (Khuda Ali Sher) 1, Jarnail Singh (Dadumajra) 2, Vikram and Jaswinder (Kishangarh) 3; 100 m: Santosh (Kishangarh) 1, Rajinder (Kishangarh) 2, Inderjeet Singh (Khuda Ali Sher) 3.

Wrestling: 50 kg Vinod Kumar (Palsora) 1, Anil Kumar (Dhanas) 2, Rajesh Kumar (Burail) 3; below 60 kg: Narinder (Palsora) 1, Rajesh (Burail) 2, Kala (Palsora) 3; below 55 kg: Suraj Prakash (Manimajra) 1, Vinod (Attawa) 2, Sarwan (Dhanas) 3; below 84 kg: Varinder (Attawa) 1, Jagmeet (Hallomajra) 2, Naveen (Dhanas) 3; volleyball: Buterla b Kishangarh 25-11, 25-20, 25-19, third place: Kaimbwala b Raipur Khurd 20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-14.

Kabaddi finals: Dadumajra b Maloya 49-36, semi-final: Maloya b Kajheri 53-47 and Dadumajra b Khuda Ali Sher 69-48.

Uttaranchal trophy

The Garhwal Cricket Club and Professional Cricket Club will meet each other in the final of the Uttaranchal trophy cricket tournament being played at the Sector 16 Stadium, here.

In the final semi-final, Garhwal CC beat Pritco Foods by four wickets while in the second semi-final, Professional CC defeated Anoop CC by 19 runs.

Brief scores: Pritco: 128 runs in 26.1 overs (Harnek 37, Harjeet 25, Deepak 5 for 31, Saurav 2 for 19); Garhwal CC: 129 runs in 27.5 overs (Bagheshwar Bisht 45, Gautam 20).

IInd tie: brief scores: Professional CC: 168 runs for three (Anil 56, Gurpeet 41), Anoop CC: 249 runs all out in 24.1 overs (Girish 48, Amit 33, Ajay 4 for 20, Parveen 2 for 16).

Inter-district tourney from April 13

Chandigarh, March 17
The Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament (under-15) for the Sushil Bali Trophy will be held from April 13 at various district headquarters. This was stated by Mr M.P. Pandove, secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). He said, six major district teams, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Mohali and Chandigarh, along with two combined minor district teams for the rest of the districts (zone A-Faridkot, Bathinda, Sangrur, Ferozepore, Mansa, Muktsar, Fatehgarh Sahib and zone B-Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Ropar and Moga) will also take part in the tournament.

The tournament is being divided into two pools and would be played on league basis at the initial stage. The final will be played from April 25 to 27.

The PCA is also organising a coaching-cum-practice camp from April 1 at the Centre of Excellence, PCA cricket stadium, Mohali, for the combined minor district teams. The camp will be conducted by Mr Varinder Bhatnagar, senior coach, PCA. He will be assisted by Mr Bharti Vij and Arun Bedi.

Golf championship

The sixth PGA Cup State Golf Championship will be held on April 3 and 4 at the RCF Golf club, Kapurthala. The competition will be held for amateurs with handicap nine and below and senior golfers (65-years and above) with handicap of 18 and below on April 4. PGA will offer cash incentives. Col H.S. Baidwan (retd), senior Vice-President of the PGA, said junior and sub-junior golf championship for boys and girls would be held in October. The association would also hold a 10-day golf coaching camp in both boys’ and girls’ sections during their summer and winter vacations at Patiala, Jalandhar and Chandigarh.
