Fracas over pets leads to firing, 5 bystanders hurt
Ghaziabad, March 10
Five passers-by were injured in indiscriminate firing by a security guard. The firing took place as a factory owner signalled the guard to shoot at a young man who had been bitten by the pet dogs of the Signals Cable Factory.  The man of Kadkad village had the ‘audacity’ to retaliate and attack the canines. Though the shots missed the man, five persons, passing in front of the factory gate, were badly injured.

A high-level team of the Drug Control Department of the state raided a medical store in the NIT area of the town here today after reports that the chemist had been allegedly selling spurious drugs under the brand name of a well-known drug manufacturer of the country. 

NDMC puts off unit area system

At a time when the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to introduce the unit area system for the assessment of property tax and house tax despite opposition from various quarters, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to defer this system for the time being, said Mr Madan Thapliyal, Director (Public Relations).

Internal exams cancelled
after paper leak

New Delhi, March 10
The Delhi government today cancelled the internal school examinations for classes VI, VII, VIII, IX and XI conducted by the Delhi government Education Department, following reports that the Class IX English paper had been leaked. The Delhi State Education Minister, Mr Arvinder Singh Lovely, said that the papers for classes VI, VII, VIII and XI examinations, which had already been held without a hitch, would not be re-held.

Students boycott classes against slapping incident
Sonepat: The students of class XI continued to boycott their classes today in Motilal Nehru School of Sports at Rai, 13 km from here, in protest against the slapping of a student, Rajiv, the captain of the class, by coach Virender Singh.

The Delhi Police Commissioner, Dr K. K. Paul, today ordered intensifying and conducting joint operations against smuggling of liquor and manufacturing of illicit arms in the run up to the general election. Addressing the Inter-State Crime Coordination meeting today, Dr Paul said motor vehicle theft should be taken very seriously as it was the precursor of other serious crimes.

Agitated over the non-payment of wages for the last four months, the Forest Department Mazdoor Union has threatened to launch an agitation if the wages were not paid by April 5. A led by the state general- secretary and district president, Mr Anand Sharma, met the Deputy Commissioner and handed over a memorandum demanding the release of their wages.
